Day 1: Arrival in Zhangjiajie

Wulingyuan Scenic and Historic Interest Area of Zhangjiajie - Upon arrival at the airport or train station, your private driver will warmly welcome you. The transfer to your prearranged hotel in the Zhangjiajie Wulingyuan area takes about 15 minutes. Enjoy some leisure time at your own pace.

Day 1: Arrival in Zhangjiajie

Zhangjiajie National Forest Park/Bailong Elevator/Yuanjiajie/Tianzi Mountain

Yuanjiajie - Your guide will accompany you to Zhangjiajie National Forest Park, where you’ll board the park’s green bus to Bailong Elevator Station. Ascend to Yuanjiajie Mountain via the Bailong Elevator, a glass elevator built into the mountain’s cliff. At the top, embark on a 2-hour hike to explore the Pillar of the Southern Sky, which inspired the “Hallelujah Mountains” in the movie Avatar. Continue to the Platform of Forgetfulness for stunning views of nearby peaks, and cross the NO. 1 Bridge Under the Heaven.

Tianzi Mountain - Next, take a green bus to Tianzi Mountain to discover “Imperial Brush,” “Xihai Stone Forest,” and “Fairy Lady Presents Flowers.” Tianzi means “Heavenly Prince.” Mt. Tianzi is associated with a Tujia Minority hero who led locals against the government army during the Ming Dynasty. The scenic spots here are intertwined with stories and legends of this divinely chosen prince. Visually distinct from other park areas, the peaks are thinner and sharper. With the largest viewing platform, it offers the most spectacular views of the sandstone peak forest, making it a highlight of the Zhangjiajie Scenic Area.

Golden Whip Stream/Huangshizhai/Glass Bridge

Golden Whip Brook - (Classic & Popular Spot, Easy Flat Walking, 2.5 hours)

Golden Whip Stream (Jin Bianxi) is considered one of China’s most beautiful streams. It stretches 6 km with a well-paved walkway at the valley’s bottom, offering an easy 2.5-hour walk between its ends. (Photographers may take 2/3 of a day.) Along the walkway, hundreds of uniquely shaped sandstone peaks rise beside the clear stream, accompanied by charming legends and local stories. Travelers are often amazed by the scenery, and lucky visitors might even spot wild monkeys adding to the natural charm.

Huangshizhai - Later, your guide will take you on a cable car ride up the mountain to visit Huangshi Village, situated 3,543 feet (1,080 meters) above sea level. It is the largest sightseeing platform for viewing the breathtaking scenery in Zhangjiajie National Park. Yellow Stone Village, the earliest developed tourist spot, features around 4,000 steps to the top (or take the easier cable car). At the summit, a 1.5-hour trail offers various angles to enjoy the sandstone peak forest. Yellow Stone Village is a classic spot to appreciate Zhangjiajie’s stunning landscape.

The Grand Canyon of Zhangjiajie - Afterwards, proceed to the Glass Bridge, the world’s highest and longest glass bridge. It is not for the faint-hearted. (The Glass Bridge spans between two mountains in Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon, measuring 375 meters long and 6 meters wide, with a height of 300 meters from the bottom.)

Tianmen Mountain - Transfer (approx. 4-hour Escort by Driver Only) to Fenghuang

Tianmen Mountain National Forest Park - After checking out of your prearranged Zhangjiajie hotel this morning, your guide and driver will take you to visit Tianmen Mountain. Ride the Tianmen Mountain Cable Car, the world’s longest, to the top of Tianmen Mountain, the highest in Zhangjiajie City. Experience the thrilling Skywalk made of glass and see the 99-Turn Road and 999-Step leading to the Tianmen gate. Conclude your Zhangjiajie trip, and your driver will take you to Fenghuang. (Escort by Driver Only)

Phoenix Ancient Town - After checking into your prearranged hotel, relax and enjoy the bars of Fenghuang in the evening.

Fenghuang City Tour - Zhangjiajie Airport (Escort by Driver Only)

Phoenix Ancient Town - Spend a relaxing morning in the romantic Ancient Fenghuang town. Located in Xiangxi Tujia and Miao Autonomous Prefecture, the town’s population mainly consists of Miao and Tujia minorities. Known as the “most beautiful small town in China,” Old Fenghuang is famous for its surrounding mountains, rivers, and ancient architecture. Your driver will meet you at your hotel around 12:00 to take you back to Zhangjiajie airport or to Huaihua Fast Train Station.

Great tour of Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang - This was a really good tour although I cannot add much more than the other reviews have covered except to wholeheartedly comment our guide, Luna, a former English teacher and local woman and now enjoying showing her surroundings in Hunan to domestic tourists and foreigners :) Although the weather was raining and misty for the duration, only one point of interest was missed, Tianmen mountain. Luna was flexible with the itinerary and substituted other places to see instead of the mountain. Next time ...

A 5* tour and tour guide!!!! - Wow! What an amazing tour! And an amazing tour guide too, Winnie! She was so helpful and knowledgeable, so professional with great English and also just good fun and chatty to spend time with! The tour was incredible - the hotel Pullman was exceptionally good. We had one day at the ancient cities of Furong and Fenghuang which were interesting and pretty at night. However it was the best 3 days that blew us away! The Tianmen Mountain with Heavens Gate, the Tianzi mountain range with Avatar mountain and the Beilong elevator and then the Zhangjiajie Grand Canyon glass bridge/glass walkway/ziplone/alide, hike and boat trip. What a tour! Can’t recommend it highly enough! And thanks Winnie for making it so memorable for us!

Exceptional Tour - Where to begin? This tour was fantastic. The tour group and Tim, our guide, took great care of us and often went over and beyond to help us have a great experience. Just having good people taking care of our transportation, buying and preparing tickets and papers and providing much additional advice and tips was worth every penny. But in addition to this they know the park top-to-bottom and really helped us take good advantage of our time there. The park is very large and has many paths and activities. There is also a lot of shuttling around in the park which could be difficult to do on your own, especially for a foreigner.The meals were delicious, especially two of them which we had outside the park at local restaurants. Be prepared for a feast. We had plenty of time and opportunities to get the photos we wanted and Tim always helped us find the best spots. We could tell throughout our tour that Tim wanted to help us have the trip we wanted and adjusted things to make it so. For me and my 17 year old daughter, I personally don’t think we could have had a better tour group and guide. They made our time phenomenal!

Jaw dropping scenery at Zhangjiajie - This was an incredible experience! On the 1st day I visited Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and specificly the Juanjiajie area with the Avatar Halleluja mountain. Best however were the views at Tianzi mountain!!! 2nd day I visited the Grand Canyon and they yellow Dragon cave. These are must sees if you like to watch or perform extreme sports and of course if you like to dwell in wonderful fairy tale caves. The last day I visited the Whip brook stream for a walk which shows the famous sandstone pinnacles from the bottom and to the Tianmen mountain, which has another bunch of spectacular sights, starting already from the cable cart. I loved every minute, had a very, very good private guide and the hotel rooms were simply brilliant.

Zhangjiajie and fenghuang City - I’ll been to Zhangjiajie and Fenghuang city during my trip in China. That was an incredible experience with our guide Gabrielle! We have walked on the glass Bridge, throught the Canion, admired Fenghuang by night (it was a beautiful experience) and Walked down for the 999 steps of the gate of heaven. In All these experiences we were accompanied by our top guide Gabrielle. She’s very friendly and top prepared, she has fulfill all our wishes and places to see. We have lived a beautiful experience and known a fantastic person! Thanks to Gabrielle and thanks to China Xian Tour for the best organisation!

What a trip, what a guide! - We just finished our guided tour between Zhangjiajie park and Fenghuang: it was amazing. Avatar mountains are unbelievable and Fenghuang has some kind of magic such as Tianmen mountain. The best was Bruce, our guide. He explained everything in a different way compared with other guide because he has a lot of passion for his work and his region. He also helped us with everything and has a fluent english like a mothertongue. Also the hotels were wonderful.

So magical - My tour guide was Dragon. Yep! That’s his English name! LOL. The tour was amazing! Dragon don’t speak English much but we have smart phones and we used wechat and translation apps. It was great. The mountains are mysterious. It was very foggy when I was there but the fog added mystery and magic to the scenery. Hunan became my favorite China province. I will come back one day on a different season because I also want to see how the mountains look without the fog. Fenghuang Ancient City is so spectacular! You have to stay at least one night in the city so you can roam the city and hangout in one of their music clubs and feel like you are 21 again. So fun! My guide took care of me and made sure I went off safely to my next destination. I highly recommend this tour and ask to have Dragon as your private tour guide.

Zhangjiajie-Fenghuang 5-day Dream Tour - It was a great adventure and a non-forgettable experience in those 5-days, visiting the Zhangjiajie Tiamen mountain, the Wulingyuan caves, streams and lakes, and the National Forest Park mountains (The Avatar Hallelujah mountain). Special thanks to my private tour guide named 'Dragon Holiday', a good driver and a tour guide and a friend, a Zhangjiajie local, who did his job and beyond that with great service, from airport-to-car-to-hotel-to-tour, and all the way back. Excellent tour of Zhangjiajie National Forest Park and Fenghuang ancient town - I am glad we chose to have a tour guide to see this park and to travel to Fenghuang ancient town. It was very helpful to have a guide facilitate getting tickets to the entrance to the park, cable car, and elevator. Also, the buses within the park would be very confusing without a guide as they go up and down the mountain and have many different stops. Our guide, Yin AKA Ester was very friendly, helpful, and accommodating to our plans. My friend had lost a painting in the airport and Yin tirelessly called the airport every day for her to see if it had been found. On our way to Fenghuang, I had asked if we could stop at a tea farm. While we did not stop at the tea farm, we stopped at an area where we tasted and bought very delicious tea. I had the best tea in my life here! We also had a late flight on the last day and she accommodated us to make a stop back in Zhangjiajie city and spend some time walking around, going for a foot massaage, and having dinner so that we did not have to waste hours just sitting at the airport. Our driver apparently had given our guide a hard time with our desire to stay a bit later in Fenghuang on the last day, but she made it possible for us to have a little extra time. Yin spoke English well and explained some history and different rock formations in the park. She took us to restaurants where we had delicious, authentic chinese food. We would not have known what to order without our guide. If I were to change a few things about this tour, I would add a stop at the glass bridge that traverses Zhangjiajie National Forest Park (not just the glass walkway that wraps around the side of the mountain). I would also definitely add more time in Fenghuang as we requested on the last day. If there were time to stop at a tea farm on the way to or from Fenghuang, I would love to have been able to do that too! I would highly recommend taking this tour to be able to make the most of your time and experience various areas of the park and Fenghuang ancient town!
