- Ksar Ouled Soltane - This ksar is constructed using stone, clay, and palm wood. It features two main courtyards, encircled by multiple levels of ghorfas (storage cells) stacked atop one another, sometimes reaching up to four stories, accessible via external staircases or stone walkways.
Each ghorfa is equipped with a small arched door, and their irregular arrangement provides the site with a rustic yet harmonious appearance. The golden desert sunlight accentuates the ochre color of the walls, creating an atmosphere that feels almost timeless.
Visitors can ascend to the upper levels, wander between the cells, and enjoy a panoramic view of the surrounding desert. Traditional objects can be found, along with a few mural paintings, and occasionally, encounters with local artisans.
- Chenini Berber Village - Situated approximately 18 km from Tataouine in southern Tunisia, Chenini is a troglodyte Berber village nestled on the slopes of Djebel Demer, at an elevation of around 500 meters. This unique site, considered one of the most beautiful Berber villages in the country, offers a captivating insight into the region’s traditional architecture and history.
The village is dominated by a ksar (fortified granary), or kalâa, constructed in the 12th century. This ksar served both as a storage facility for food reserves and as a refuge during attacks. The traditional dwellings, known as ghorfas, are carved into the rock, providing natural protection from the elements and invasions. The white minaret of the mosque, visible from the surrounding mountains, once served as a landmark for caravanners.
- Ksar Hadada - Ksar Hadada, located about 5 km from Ghomrassen and roughly twenty kilometers from Tataouine, is a renowned site in southern Tunisia. This ksar, designed in a horseshoe shape, contains approximately 355 ghorfas (grain storage rooms) spread over three levels, offering a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape. It was used as the filming location for the slave quarters of Mos Espa in Star Wars: The Phantom Menace.
Following the visit, a traditional Tunisian lunch will be served in a local restaurant. Guests will have the opportunity to savor typical dishes such as couscous, tajine, and local pastries, providing a full immersion into the culinary culture of southern Tunisia.
