It boasts numerous shops, a diverse mix of people, lively markets, and a variety of restaurants, mosques, churches, and Hindu temples, reflecting a blend of different cultures.
On the Stone Town tour, visitors can explore fascinating artifacts such as the intricately carved Arab doors with brass studs, ornate balconies, the colonial post office, and the vibrant Kanga market. Our knowledgeable guides will highlight the most captivating sights.
The tour features the central market, the former slave market, the Anglican cathedral, the House of Wonders, the Old Fort, Freddie Mercury House, and much more.
- Prison Island - Changuu Private Island - Currently, the island serves as a charming tourist resort, renowned for its giant tortoises. Our tour guide will provide a brief introduction to the islet’s intriguing history, after which visitors can enjoy sunbathing, swimming, or strolling around to observe the tortoises and peacocks.
Additionally, a traditional wooden boat will transport guests to Prison Island. The islet was initially used as a private detention center for rebellious slaves. Later, a jail was constructed but never put to use.
- Jambo Spice Farm - Visitors will be amazed by the variety of exotic spices, fruits, and vegetables flourishing in these tropical gardens. Delight in fresh spices such as cinnamon, cardamom, ginger, nutmeg, vanilla, and black pepper. Sample a range of fruits from rose apple to sweet lemon to guava!
It is also fascinating to learn how some plants are utilized by the local population to treat certain ailments, and how others, like henna, the perfume tree, and lipstick trees, are valued for cosmetic preparation.
