The forest plays a pivotal role in Zanzibar town’s water supply by forming extensive underground water reserves. Masingini boasts nutrient-rich deep soil that fosters a verdant habitat for a diverse array of flora and fauna.
As you traverse the Masingini forest, you’ll feel an intimate connection with nature, surrounded by over 179 plant species, including unique endemic and scarce indigenous varieties. You’ll also encounter the indigenous Zanzibar Red Colobus monkeys.
The forest serves as the habitat for the diminutive antelope, the Blue Duiker, and the Zanzibar Elephant shrew, which flourishes in the forest’s seed and fruit-rich environment. Additionally, the forest is a haven for a vast assortment of butterfly species.
