• Zrinjevac - Your local guide will be waiting for you beside the meteorological post, holding a “Zagreb Stories” sign. You’ll receive a brief introduction to what lies ahead and some fun facts about this location.
• Zagreb Welcomes You - Examine the city model for a clearer view of the landscape. It’s a bronze cast depicting the city center. You’ll also notice “welcome” written in various languages, which is how the sculpture earned its name.
• Cathedral of Zagreb - Welcome to Kaptol Hill, one of the two hills forming the medieval core of Zagreb: Kaptol and Gradec. Admire the stunning cathedral and hear the tale of Zagreb’s founding and the “church hill” Kaptol.
• Dolac Market - Immerse yourself in the colorful and lively atmosphere of this iconic farmers market. Dolac is most renowned for its red umbrellas, or more accurately, parasols.
• Tkalciceva Street - Explore the city’s most vibrant street, discover what locals do for fun, and hear some intriguing local legends. The street is lined with restaurants and bars, making it a perfect spot for a night out.
• Krvavi Most - We’ll pause briefly at Bloody Bridge Street. Once a bridge, it is now a charming street. It’s time for a story about how such a lovely street acquired such a dramatic name.
• Stone Gate - We’ll arrive at the Stone Gate, an entrance to the medieval Gradec Hill. As we pass through, you’ll hear a story about a miracle. We’ll also visit Zagreb’s first pharmacy.
• St. Mark’s Square - Visit the heart of the medieval Gradec Hill. This was the site where all the town’s most significant events took place. Today, it houses the most colorful church roof, along with the Parliament and Government buildings.
• Church of St. Catherine - We’ll make a brief stop at the Church of St. Catherine. It is a beautiful church known for its Baroque stucco decorations and painted ceiling.
• Lotrscak Tower - Part of the original defensive walls from the 13th century with an intriguing origin story. Don’t be alarmed if you hear a cannon fire at noon – it happens daily, and we’ll be there just in time to witness it!
• Funicular - Downtown - The funicular has become one of Zagreb’s symbols. Known as “Uspinjača,” it connects the Upper and Lower Town. Enjoy the shortest funicular ride in the world!
• Ban Josip Jelacic Square - We will conclude our tour at Zagreb’s main square, the heart of modern-day Zagreb. You’ll hear the story of how Zagreb got its name and learn about a few local customs. Your guide will be delighted to offer recommendations for the rest of your time in Zagreb.
