Great for history buffs and all others - We learned so much at Jamestown Settlement. It was cool to step on the ship replicas. The museum was full of information! The food was good ANS it wasn’t expensive. If you haven’t been, it is worth the trip!

Fun and informative - We spent all of the morning, and a fair amount of the afternoon at the Jamestown Settlement. The interactive museum was fun as well as informative. The outdoor exhibits were a hands on glimpse of the life of the first settlers. What an uncomfortable life that must have been! The experience was worth every penny.

Go here first before Jamestown Historical Park - This attraction is done in the same style as the museum of the American Revolution and run by the same organization. Large museum with a couple of films and takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. Then, an outdoor reconstruction of the Jamestown fort, a Native American village, and three ships that takes maybe an hour. Our family enjoyed this museum more than the American Revolution museum. This museum is focused on Jamestown from the founding in 1607 and its growth until 1690 and not so broad a topic like the entire American Revolution. 25 minute film in the main theater is a great way to learn about the settling of Jamestown of Jamestown and there is also a very good 15 minute film on Bacon’s rebellion. Overall, found this museum to do a much better job presenting and explaining Jamestown than the National Historic site. Would definitely recommend going here first before the National Historic Jamestown Settlement Park. Combo ticket that combines these two parks in Jamestown and the two parks in Yorktown is a good deal if planning to see it all (check website for details). Otherwise, $20/$10 is the admission charged. Food options are much better here than at the museum of American Revolution. This museum has a cafeteria instead of just a small cafe.

History brought to life - As history enthusiasts, my husband and I are always looking for ways to immerse ourselves in it. So, of course we had a very enjoyable visit to this museum. It is chalked full of information, replicas and even features some great outdoor living history exhibits. The indoor part of the museum has tons of educational exhibits and films. And then there's the interactive outdoor area featuring re-enactments, a fort, and people dressed in period clothing who are happy to answer questions. There are also replicas of ships from the 17th century -- some of which you can get on and explore! You can also walk through some of the buildings in the fort and watch demonstrations. There is a lot to do at this museum so you will need at least an entire day to properly explore it.

Excellent exhibits - The weather was bitter cold the day of my visit, so I didn't spend as long as I would have liked. I probably could have spent the whole day though. I loved Jamestown Settlement. Even though there's less restored than Williamsburg, I actually found it more interesting because it portrays a time about 150 years earlier, when the settlement was still new and people were just trying to figure out how to survive. I started at Paspahegh Town. I loved entering the dwellings and seeing how they would have looked when people were living in them. The docents were also very good. One gave me a demonstration on how to scrape the fur off a hide and then let me try it myself, which was cool. I spoke to another docent for awhile, who answered a bunch of my questions. I went down to the ships next. It's really incredible how they crossed the ocean in such small vessels. The docents again were very knowledgeable. I finished the outdoor exhibits at the fort. It was so interesting. Having just been at Williamsburg, it was like being in a completely different world. There were several costumed interpreters there. The one in the guard house was so funny. Another was a musician who gave demonstrations on period instruments. He even made his fiddle himself. I was there in time for the Christmas Lord of Misrule performance, which was interactive, informative, and entertaining. I was very cold at that point, so I went to their indoor museum. It was truly fantastic. It's a wonderful exhibit, and much bigger than I expected. I was there for about an hour and a half and didn't get to finish. I probably needed another hour. It covers the pre-settlement period up through the 1690s. There are artifacts, dioramas, documents, reproductions, and pieces of art. The signs were informative but engaging for lay people. If you like history, don't miss it - it's fascinating.

Jamestown was a good stop to learn about our history as a nation. The museums were informative with films in addition to the di - Alot to take in at the museums. Both indoor and outdoor things to see. Alot of walking though so bring your walking shoes.

Exhibits should pertain to Jamestown settlement and history - I would have given it 5 stars but when entering the museum side I saw protesting and discrimination of law enforcement in some photos and artwork. I work in law enforcement and we work very hard to protect. I understand protesting is part of our history but again not Jamestown settlement history. However, the dragon exhibition about porcelain and the Chinese migration was very informative and nicely presented.
