Arrival and Arher Beach
Arher Beach - The flight leaves Abu Dhabi at 8:00 am and lands in Socotra at 9:30 am. Welcome to Socotra International Airport! The adventure leader will greet you just outside the airport and guide you to the car. Rest assured, the airport is quite small, making it easy to navigate.
From there, you’ll meet the rest of the Arabian Wanderers team, and the adventure kicks off! The first stop is a delightful homemade Yemeni meal with a welcoming local family, followed by a trip to Arher Beach.
Arher Beach is where towering coastal cliffs meet immaculate white sand dunes, just a few steps from the shore. Freshwater streams flow from the cliffs into the sea. After setting up camp, the journey continues to the easternmost point of the island, where the Arabian Sea and the Indian Ocean converge. Watching the sunset from this location is truly breathtaking. The day concludes with dinner and camping back at the beach.
Yellow Crab Beach - After settling in, the group will drive to the easternmost point of the island to explore where the Indian Ocean meets the Arabian Sea. The sunset from this vantage point is stunning! Afterwards, return to camp for dinner and a restful sleep on the beach.
Dihamri or Hoq Cave, Diksam
Dihamri Marine Protected Area - Day two starts before dawn with a short hike to a perfect spot for a stunning sunrise. Return to camp for breakfast, then choose between snorkeling in Dihamri Marine Reserve or hiking to Hoq Cave.
Dihamri Marine Reserve, located on Socotra’s northern coast, is one of the top snorkeling destinations. A dive master is available to assist with equipment rental ($5) for deeper exploration. Look out for turtles, octopuses, leopard eels, and parrotfish.
Hoq Cave boasts impressive stalagmites, stalactites, and flowstones, preserved in their natural state for an authentic wilderness experience.
After your adventure, return to Arher for lunch, then proceed to Diksam Plateau, home to the legendary Dragon’s Blood Trees. As you drive through the national park, you’ll see these otherworldly trees lining the roads.
Before reaching the forest, stop at Wadi Dirhur, the island’s deepest canyon, featuring palms at the bottom and robust Bottle Trees on the walls—an awe-inspiring sight! Conclude the day with dinner and an overnight stay under the Dragon’s Blood Trees.
