- Shakadang Trail - Located in Taroko National Park, the Shakadang Trail is a favorite among hikers. It offers stunning views of the river’s vibrant turquoise waters and the majestic marble cliffs. The trail is named after the white rocks, known as Stakataka, which are predominantly marble and gneiss, scattered across the Shakadangxi riverbed. The green and white rocks, along with the stonewall path, are the trail’s most captivating features.
- Yanzihkou Trail (Swallow Grotto) - “Swallow Grotto” is named for the numerous small holes and crevices in the cliffs that provide nesting sites for swallows.
- Tunnel of Nine Turns Trail - The Tunnel of Nine Turns (Jiuqudong) is a winding passage carved through the mountainside, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding marble cliffs and the Liwu River.

The Taroko Gorge was created approximately 250 million years ago. Around four million years ago, the island of Taiwan emerged from the collision of tectonic plates. Over time, stream erosion and crustal uplift have shaped a vertical canyon, often referred to as Taiwan’s “Grand Canyon.”
