The Ascent Begins: Chishingtan to Taroko National Park

The sun had barely risen over the horizon when I found myself at the Chishingtan Scenic Area, the starting point of the legendary Taiwan King of Mountain Challenge. The air was crisp, and the anticipation was palpable as I mounted my bike, ready to tackle the 105km route with a staggering 3,275m elevation gain. This wasn’t just any ride; it was a test of endurance, a battle against gravity, and a journey through some of Taiwan’s most breathtaking landscapes.

As I pedaled away from the coast, the road began to climb, winding its way through the lush greenery of Taroko National Park. The steep ascents were relentless, but the stunning views of the Taroko Arch Gate and the Swallow Grotto provided a welcome distraction. Through the Tunnels: GuanYuan to Hehuan Mountain
