Qianling Mausoleum was constructed for Emperor Gaozong and Empress Wuzetian of the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). They were interred in two separate tombs, with a Sacred Road lined with sculptures connecting them.
The guide will lead the group along the Sacred Road, to the renowned stele, and to view the grand tombs. Following this, the group will visit the Tomb of Princess Yongtai, located nearby. This tomb contains 40 well-preserved paintings depicting the royal family’s daily life, including hunting, fighting, rituals, and maids. These artworks reflect the high artistic standards of the Tang Dynasty. -
Famen Temple (Famen Si) - The journey continues with a 1.5-hour drive to Famen Temple. The temple’s history dates back to the Northern Zhou Dynasty (6th Century AD) and was named Famen in 618 AD during the Tang Dynasty. In 1987, four relics were discovered beneath the Relic Pagoda, two of which were crafted from white jade. The third relic belonged to a renowned monk, and these three are known as duplicate relics. The true relic, a finger bone of the Sakyamuni Buddha, is yellow and features bone-like secretory granules. Consequently, Famen Temple became a significant Buddhist pilgrimage site. Visitors will explore the Treasure Hall, Grand Hall, Relic Pagoda, and Namaste Dagoba, which was designed as both a place of worship and a repository for the relics found in the Famen pagoda. However, the True Relic is only displayed on the 1st and 15th of each month according to the Chinese calendar, as well as on Saturdays, Sundays, and Chinese holidays.
The tour concludes with a 2.5-hour drive back to the hotel in Xian.
