- Shaanxi History Museum - The Shaanxi History Museum stands as one of China’s pioneering national museums equipped with modern amenities. It boasts a collection of over 370,000 artifacts, including murals, paintings, pottery, coins, and objects made of bronze, gold, and silver. Opened to the public in 1991, the museum’s design reflects the Tang Dynasty’s architectural style, featuring a central hall and storied buildings at the corners. Shaanxi, once the ancient imperial capital of China, served as the seat for over 13 feudal dynasties, such as the Zhou, Qin, Han, and Tang dynasties. The museum is renowned for its Zhou Dynasty bronze wares, Qin and Han Dynasty pottery figurines, Tang Dynasty gold and silver wares, and mural paintings from Tang Dynasty tombs.
- Xi’an City Wall (Chengqiang) - The Xi’an City Wall is among the oldest, largest, and best-preserved city walls in China. Constructed during the Ming Dynasty as a military defense system 600 years ago, it showcases the complete features of feudal society’s rampart architecture. The wall has undergone several refurbishments since its original construction in the 14th century, with major restorations occurring in the late 1500s, 1700s, and most recently in 1983. The rectangular wall spans 14 kilometers, with nearly all sections having been restored or rebuilt. A walkway atop the wall offers a four-hour walking experience. As a defensive fortification, it includes a moat, drawbridges, watch towers, corner towers, parapet walls, and gate towers.
- Forest of Stone Steles Museum - Formerly the site of the Temple of Confucius during the Northern Song dynasty (960-1127), the Forest of Stone Steles Museum is located on Sanxue Street, near the south gate of the Xi’an City Wall. Established in AD 1087 to safeguard precious stone steles, it houses significant pieces like the “Classic on Filial Piety” by Emperor Xuanzong in AD 745 and “the Kaicheng Stone Steles” carved in AD 837. Covering an area of 31,000 square meters, it served as the main museum for Shaanxi Province since 1944. Due to its extensive collection of stone steles, it was officially named the Forest of Stone Steles Museum in 1992.
- Muslim Quarter - Xi’an was the first city in China to embrace Islam when Emperor Gaozong of the Tang dynasty officially permitted its practice in 651 AD, fostering a large Muslim community. The Xi’an Muslim Quarter spans several blocks, home to approximately 60,000 Muslims, predominantly Chinese-speaking Hui Muslims. The area features about seven mosques, with the Great Mosque, built in 742, being the most renowned. The Muslim Quarter offers a vibrant maze of street food, restaurants, and lively local culture. As you stroll along the narrow, winding streets lined with shops, you’ll see Muslims in white hats engaging in leisurely conversations. The area also hosts attractions like the Gao Grand Courtyard and shadow puppet shows.
- Xi’an Mosque - Opened to the public on September 24, 2013, the Xi’an Dongxinjie Mosque is the most contemporary mosque in Xi’an. The original Dongxinjie Mosque was established at the intersection of Dongxinjie and Jiefang Road in the 1930s by Muslims who migrated to Xi’an from Henan Province. Due to real estate development, the mosque was relocated 100 meters west to its current address on Shangde Road. The new Dongxinjie Mosque is a five-story Islamic-style building covering 3,763 square meters, accommodating 600 worshippers. It is conveniently located within walking distance of the Sofitel Xi’an and Grand Metropark Hotel.
