It extends for 13.7 kilometers (8.5 miles) in length, surrounded by a deep moat. Every 120 meters, a rampart extends from the main wall to defend against enemies climbing up. There are 98 ramparts in total, each with a sentry building where soldiers could protect the entire wall without exposing themselves to the enemy.
