• West Thumb Geyser Basin - As the first major attraction encountered when entering Yellowstone National Park from the south, West Thumb Geyser Basin is conveniently located near Grant Village on the shores of Yellowstone Lake. This basin is one of several active geyser basins in the park, each offering unique features that make them all worth a visit.
• Dragon’s Mouth Springs - The Crow people interpreted the steam from this mudpot as the snorts of an angry bull bison. Its current name was given by an unknown European American, with previous names including Gothic Grotto, Blowing Cavern, and The Belcher. Since 1994, the surging action has lessened for unknown reasons. In 1999, significant changes occurred: the water temperature decreased by 10 degrees, and its color shifted from green to chalky white.
• Lower Yellowstone River Falls - As the largest waterfall in Yellowstone, Lower Falls is undoubtedly the park’s most renowned waterfall. Standing at 308 feet tall, it is likely the second most photographed location in Yellowstone, following Old Faithful Geyser. There are numerous vantage points from both the east (Inspiration Point, Grandview Point, and Lookout Point) and west (Artists Point) sides of the Grand Canyon, most of which require only a short walk or no walk at all. The trail to the top of the Falls (a 3/4 mile roundtrip, though steep with many switchbacks) is essential, as standing atop the Falls offers one of the most breathtaking experiences in the entire park.
• Norris Geyser Basin - Norris Geyser Basin is the hottest, oldest, and most dynamic of Yellowstone’s thermal areas. The highest temperature recorded in any geothermal area in Yellowstone was measured in a scientific drill hole at Norris: 459°F (237°C) just 1,087 feet (326 meters) below the surface! Very few thermal features at Norris are below the boiling point (199°F at this elevation).
• Old Faithful - Old Faithful is a cone geyser located in Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming, USA. Named in 1870 during the Washburn–Langford–Doane Expedition, it was the first geyser in the park to receive a name. This highly predictable geothermal feature has erupted every 44 minutes to two hours since 2000.
