• Trapp Family Lodge Outdoor Center - Another fantastic attraction awaits here. A visit to the Von Trapp Family Lodge is a must when in Stowe. It’s the second most popular reason, after skiing, that draws visitors to the area. Nestled on 2,500 acres, this Austrian mountain gem is managed by the original Von Trapp family, who inspired the movie The Sound of Music.

• Stowe Mountain Resort - Approaching Stowe’s main resort area, it’s impossible to miss. This is where the gondola departs, but note that its warm weather operation starts in mid-September, coinciding with the vibrant foliage season.

• Smugglers’ Notch Resort - We are nearing the entrance to Smugglers’ Notch Resort, Vermont’s third-largest ski resort, also known as America’s Family Resort.

• Stowe Village Massage - The quaint village of Stowe is just ahead, where we will reach the junction of Route 100. If we choose to explore the village, we’ll turn left and find parking.

• Cold Hollow Cider Mill - Apple cider is a Vermont specialty, and it’s a must-try while you’re here. A great spot for this is coming up soon.

• Cabot - We are in the heart of a food lover’s paradise along Route 100. There are excellent places to stop and sample some of Vermont’s most beloved culinary delights.

• Waterbury - Approaching the town of Waterbury, known for its famous ice cream spot, there’s another major brand based here that might be worth a visit.

• Ben & Jerry’s - Continue straight to reach the Ben & Jerry’s ice cream factory. As expected, this is a very popular destination and one of Vermont’s top attractions. Be prepared for some short waits during peak times, such as summer and foliage season.

• Mad River Valley - It seems we’ve chosen to drive Route 17 to Mad River Glen and perhaps a bit further to the App Gap itself. It’s less than 10 minutes to the Gap, and we’ll pass the ski area on the way.

• Sugarbush Farm - Known for its ski resort, Sugarbush Farm also offers numerous summer activities for all ages, including the young at heart.

• Warren - This quirky little town is definitely worth a drive-through. Passing through town will bring us back onto this road without missing anything.

• Robert Frost Wayside Trail - The Robert Frost interpretive trail offers a peaceful, reflective experience. Traveling on Route 125, one of Vermont’s six mountain gaps, is popular with the New England cycling community.

• Green Mountain Oasis - Visit the Green Mountain Cafe and Visitor Center. You’ll find the beautifully restored train station, now the Visitor Center, at the end of the first block.

• Calvin Coolidge Homestead - The Notch cemetery, where President Coolidge is buried, is on Lynn’s Hill Road, coming up on our right. To bypass the cemetery and head directly to the Coolidge homestead, the entrance driveway will be on our left as we round the curve.

• Lake Rescue - One of a series of four lakes, Lake Rescue was renamed from Plymouth Lake in the 1880s.

• Killington - This place is wonderful, thank you for bringing me along. It’s about a 4-mile drive to the Base Lodge. We can stop along the way for lunch, a snack, or perhaps a cup of tea or cappuccino.

• Okemo Mountain Resort - On the western side of the road lies the Okemo Mountain Resort, a popular ski destination.

• Weston Priory - In a few minutes, we’ll have the chance to make an unexpected stop.

• Londonderry - Following Route 100, the next town is Londonderry. Londonderry, Vermont, was named after Londonderry, New Hampshire, which was named after Londonderry in Northern Ireland.

• Jamaica State Park - For those thoroughly exploring Vermont, a visit to Jamaica State Park is worthwhile.

• Buttermilk Falls - In about a mile, we’ll reach the intersection of Route 100 and Route 103. If it’s a particularly hot day, a quick visit to Buttermilk Falls might be tempting.
