Following a brief safety briefing, we’ll set sail for a delightful two-hour journey on the untamed Cape Fear River. Depending on the wind and current, we might sail south, passing under the Cape Fear Memorial Bridge towards the expansive waters near the State Port, observing international ships from around the globe. Alternatively, we might head north, where the river narrows and history is embedded in the muddy banks. We’ll glide past hand-dug rice canals that once fueled Wilmington’s economy and navigate the same tea-colored waters that guided settlers to the Appalachian foothills.
No matter our course, we’ll be on the lookout for local wildlife: ospreys, eagles, egrets, herons, sturgeon, gar, American alligators, and the occasional bottlenose dolphin.
