Setting Off on a Desert Adventure

The sun was just beginning to rise over the rugged landscape of Willow Beach as I arrived, eager to embark on the Colorado River Kayak Tour. As a marine biologist, my work often takes me to the ocean’s depths, but today, I was trading the salty sea for the fresh waters of the Colorado River. The anticipation of exploring the Black Canyon and the famed Emerald Cave was exhilarating. Our guide, Jonny, a U.S. National Kayak Champion, greeted us with a warm smile and a wealth of knowledge about the area. His enthusiasm was infectious, setting the tone for what promised to be an unforgettable journey.

After a brief safety briefing and some paddling tips, we were ready to hit the water.
