Lonnie is an excellent guide who truly knows his stuff and takes time to really paint a picture of what life would have been liked for enslaved people in Williamsburg. Well worth taking an hour of your time to go along and learn about these incredible people and their history.

Engaging, educational and necessary - This was an excellent tour, with a tremendous amount of useful and necessary information covered in a single hour. I attended with my 9-yo son who was engaged the entire time. Lonnie is clearly passionate and knowledgeable about the history of Williamsburg generally and slavery in the colonies specifically. He was very engaging and patient with questions. Some of the material is not easy to hear, but all the more important for us to learn. I honestly feel like any trip to Williamsburg without this tour would be incomplete.

Thought-provoking tour you don’t want to miss! - Lonnie was an incredible tour guide! He discussed important topics about slavery and systemic oppression in a thoughtful and professional manner. My 11-year-old peppered Lonnie with questions and he patiently answered every one! My entire family learned so much from Lonnie’s tour (and that’s saying a lot since I grew up near Williamsburg). I would absolutely book with Lonnie in the future and have already recommended the tout tour to several family members and friends.

Williamsburg Slavery Tour - Lonnie was a great tour guide. He provided insightful information, and it was obvious he had done some research on the history of Williamsburg. The most interesting facts were around the early emancipators and the risks they took in freeing their slaves in early America.

Don’t miss a tour with Lonnie! - The slavery tour was very interesting. However, much of the slavery tour was covered in the Patriot’s tour. No need to do both. Either one. By itself is well worth the time and $$.

Recommend highly. - Our guide was excellent. I anticipated he would share a little bit more information about the treatment of the slaves, but the things he did share with us were very informative.
