- Williamsburg Inn - The licensed guide will greet visitors at the sophisticated Williamsburg Inn, located at 136 E. Francis Street, and lead them on a journey back to the 18th century. As the group strolls along Duke of Gloucester Street, they will enter a town with a more leisurely pace. Participants will discover the reasons behind the Colonists’ decision to separate from Great Britain. They will experience the sights, sounds, and aromas of the 1700s, when Virginia was the largest and wealthiest colony in British America.
- Colonial Williamsburg Capitol Building - Participants will be transported to the 18th century as they walk along Duke of Gloucester Street, known as “the most historic street in America.” The tour will include a stop at the Capitol Building, where the Founding Fathers debated British taxation and ultimately proposed independence. Along the way, the group will pass bustling trades, merchant shops, and taverns, and may even visit the dark jail cells and shackles of the Public Gaol (Jail) where Blackbeard’s pirates were held.
- Tarpley, Thompson, And Company - As the group continues down Duke of Gloucester Street, they will discuss Virginia’s role in declaring independence and chat about Colonial life in the capital city. They will observe costumed interpreters and the lively shops, working trades, and taverns that catered to hungry travelers where the Founding Fathers debated independence. The tour will include a stop at the Courthouse to share the punishments given to convicted criminals, and perhaps a photo opportunity with feet in the “stocks.”
- 300 Palace Green St - On the way to the grand Governor’s Palace, the group will pass horse-drawn carriages, possibly encounter a patriot, and walk up Palace Green to view the mansion that displayed the wealth and power of the British Empire.
- Bruton Parish Episcopal Church - The tour will conclude at the historic Bruton Parish Church, near Merchants Square. This location offers the option to continue exploring the historic area or to visit Merchants Square, which features 40 shops and restaurants. Shops include Lululemon, Talbot’s, and Scotland House, along with award-winning dining options ranging from fine dining to casual eateries. Visitors may choose to continue touring, enjoy a meal, or shop for souvenirs. The guide will share their favorite spots!
