A Journey to Turtle Paradise

The sun was just beginning to rise as I stepped off the cruise ship, feeling the familiar thrill of a new adventure. The air was warm, and the promise of a day spent swimming with sea turtles was enough to make my heart race. As a former professional surfer, I’ve spent countless hours in the ocean, but the allure of these gentle creatures was something I couldn’t resist.

Our guide, Patrick, and driver, Sexy Eddy, greeted us with wide smiles and a comfortable bus that would take us on our journey. The ride was more than just a means to an end; it was an island tour filled with history and a surprise stop to see flamingos. The vibrant pink birds were a delightful prelude to the day, and I couldn’t help but snap a few photos.

Arriving at Turtle Beach, I was eager to dive in. The private terrace provided a perfect spot to change and store our belongings, but the real magic awaited in the water. With water shoes on, I waded into the crystal-clear sea, feeling the excitement build as Patrick joined us with his GoPro and treats for the turtles. The turtles, including the rare hawksbill, swarmed around us, brushing against our legs and creating an unforgettable underwater ballet. It was a mesmerizing experience, one that left me both exhilarated and exhausted.

The Beauty of Grote Knip

After our time with the turtles, we headed to Playa Kenepa Grandi Beach, known locally as Grote Knip. This beach is the epitome of Caribbean beauty, with its powdery white sand and turquoise waters. I took a moment to relax, sipping on a delicious smoothie and watching as others tried their hand at “baby” cliff diving.

The hour we spent at Grote Knip was a perfect interlude, allowing us to soak in the sun and the stunning surroundings. The beach was a canvas of vibrant colors, and I couldn’t resist capturing the scene with my camera. It was a place that seemed to exist outside of time, a reminder of the simple joys of island life.

As we prepared to leave, I felt a sense of contentment wash over me. The day had been a perfect blend of adventure and relaxation, a testament to the beauty of Curacao and the warmth of its people.
