A Serene Start at Shete Boka

The day began with a gentle breeze and the promise of adventure as we set off to explore the untouched beauty of Curacao’s west side. Our small group, just four of us, was led by the ever-enthusiastic Francisco, whose knowledge of the island was as vast as the ocean itself. Our first stop was Shete Boka National Park, a place where nature’s raw power is on full display. As we walked along the rugged coastline, the sound of waves crashing into the underground caverns was both thrilling and soothing. The view of Christoffel Mountain in the distance was a reminder of the island’s majestic beauty, a sight that left us all in awe.

Swimming with Sea Turtles at Playa Piskado

Next, we made our way to Playa Piskado, a charming local beach where the real magic happened. Here, fishermen feed the sea turtles, creating a unique opportunity for us to swim alongside these gentle creatures. Renting snorkel gear was a breeze, and soon I was submerged in the crystal-clear waters, surrounded by the graceful movements of the turtles. It was a surreal experience, one that connected me to the ocean in a way that only such close encounters can.

The beach itself was a slice of paradise, with its soft sands and inviting waters. After our swim, we took a moment to relax under the shade of a tent, sipping on coffee and sharing stories of our underwater adventures. The camaraderie of our small group made the experience even more special, as we bonded over our shared love for the sea and its inhabitants.

Cliff Jumping and Flamingo Watching

Our journey continued to Grote Knip, a beach renowned for its stunning turquoise waters and thrilling cliff jumping opportunities. Even from the parking lot, the view was breathtaking, a postcard-perfect scene that captured the essence of Curacao’s natural beauty. While some of us dared to take the plunge from the cliffs, others simply enjoyed the sun and the sea, soaking in the vibrant atmosphere of this popular spot.

After a delightful lunch at Playa Forti Bar, where local flavors tantalized our taste buds, we headed to the Flamingo Sanctuary at Sint Willibrordus. Here, amidst the cacti and national trees, we hoped to catch a glimpse of the elegant flamingos in their natural habitat. Though they were elusive that day, the serene landscape and the chance to explore such a unique environment made the visit worthwhile.

As the day came to a close, I reflected on the incredible experiences we had shared. From the powerful waves of Shete Boka to the gentle grace of the sea turtles, Curacao had revealed its many wonders to us.
