It was not disclosed when booking that the exterior seating on the boat was limited to only a % of the passengers. And there was not enough seating inside once ot got coldoutside for all booked to sit inside.
No orca sighting but perfect service and lovely sea life.
I had my heart set on seeing orcas. We saw a gray whale.although I understand they can't control the whales & where they are I was expecting more. 20 yrs ago on our honeymoon we did an excursion out of Sidney, BC & saw so many orcas. I had hoped for that again. The crew, Matt, Aubrey & Beth were wonderful. Very informative & personable. Overall it was a nice morning adventure.
We had a great time with Matt, Brey and Beth. Gorgeous scenery and they were delightful educational as they showed us the animals of the area. Very enjoyable trip.
The trip was awesome. Captain Drew has a great sense of humor, helpful, friendly and caring of his passengers. Beth and Alex were very knowledgeable and friendly. We were able to see to humpback whales,Heather and Raptor. Captain Drew followed them which allowed us lots of time for watching them. He was never in a rush which is much appreciated. I would highly recommend this tour to everyone.
Great friendly crew. (Cowboy Dave, Jen, and Amy). Knowledgeable and we saw whales. Could not ask for a better day.
When it gets down to it, your experience is tempered by what you see. Saw orcas, would have loved more.
This would have been a perfect day and the whale sightings were spectacular and abundant. However, the crew was having major problems with one of the engines that delayed our starting time by one hour, so we were slower to get to the location where the whales had been spotted and we got back later than anticipated. Otherwise, the experience was fantastic, and I understand these things likely occur very infrequently here. I would still highly recommend their services.
Captain Matt, Aubrey and Ellen the Naturalists were very informative, fun, lighthearted and patient in our quest for whales. Luckily, saw two separate grey whales and one Minke whale. Also, sea lions, harbor seals, eagles and more!
Captain Drew, Ellen and Beth are AMAZINGLY INCREDIBLE!! Their professionalism was top notch! Their knowledge of the waters, the area and the animals we encountered was very informative and insightful! Together, they made it a fun-filled, exciting and worthwhile experience!! The boat was clean sea worthy!! The time we spent together as a family was priceless!!
Captain Dave was amazing. Super knowledgeable about the sound, and made the experience of watching "whale killers" more informative
What a great staff that not only made certain everyone saw whales and a lot of other wildlife, but they were knowledgeable about all the animals and the area. What a phenomenal experience
Overall, this experience was good. The drawbacks were that we started late because we were waiting for one couple who was running late. I'm perfectly willing to wait 10 minutes, but 30 minutes after the scheduled start time was a bummer. One person in our group had to drive back to Mt. Rainier (a 3 hour drive) which put us back to the dock late. The other drawback was although the naturalists were quite good, they weren't communicated any information over a loud speaker, but were available to answer questions instead. Whereas the captain was broadcasting his comments loudly. This left me feeling like I was missing out on interesting information that the naturalists were giving to others on the boat. Still, the experience was good and the crew was knowledgeable. I would recommend.
In general it was a great boat and staff and ride, I’m would have preferred to return to the whales than go for a long ride to no where at the end, but maybe that’s just me. I don’t get bored of watching them for an hour :)
I was not prepared to get wet and because my grandson wanted to be on the outside of the boat we both were totally soaked and froze the whole time. It would be nice if your guides would explain that at the beginning that there is a possibility of that so that they can stay inside until the boat slows down when reaching the destination.
All in all, we enjoyed the whale watching trip with Outer Islands Excursions. We were on the boat Blackfish II and I do recommend it when you visit Anacortes. The Captain went out of his way to ensure we had the best experience, extending our trip by over an hour to cruise around Cypress Island, where we were fortunate enough to see a humpback whale. This was in addition to the grey whale we saw off Whidbey Island and the Steller sea lions off of Lopez earlier in the trip. The boat is very comfortable, very smooth, and very and fast! My only concern is that I don’t think that the on-board naturalist was familiar with Washington State’s fishing regulations as it applies to seaweeds. She was friendly and knowledgeable about whales, but in attempting to make the most of our excursion and get the customers a taste of the local sea life, she harvested some kelp fronds in a manner that is ‘inconsistent’ with the regulations. And this may or may not have been within the boundaries of Deception Pass State Park, which would have made it illegal anyway. I compliment her effort to make the trip special, but hope that she reads this review and does it within the constraints of the fishing regulations next time.
Great Tour, Great Crew!
Well, it was a lovely trip. We saw some Orcas and Humpbacks whales. Plus, the crew were all super cute and funny! What more could you ask for?
Great crew - Drew, Dave, & Alex. Very helpful and knowledgeable about the islands and especially the wildlife.
Excellent guides, captain. Great vessel. Got to see some humpback whale tails. I would simply recommend changing the promotional material to note orcas are not common-all the brochure stuff I had was plastered with Orcas and little else, so I thought I'd get to see one. So I'm simply asking to manage expectations. Also, it would be cool to have a chalkboard out front of check in that notes how many sightings of each type of whale or dolphin have occurred! That will help manage expectations about what we will see and also give us an idea of rarity or commonality of sightings. Thank you for your service.
Beth, David, and Mark were great!!
All of the guides were super knowledgeable and I just really liked their energy. Safety was obviously a huge priority but it was all super fun and we got to see tons of critters. Even if we hadn’t, it was obvious how much they cared about the passenger experience.
I brought my granddaughter to the northwest to experience everything she would never do in Tennessee. This trip was part of her graduation present. She was in 7th haven on your tour. Loved every minute. Thank you all so much.
The guides were friendly and knowledgeable. The boat was clean. It was an enjoyable experience.
The captain and crew were friendly, knowledgeable, and took good care of the passengers on the tour. I’d not hesitate to return!
