Collect your electric bike from our Waterfront store, located at Unit 15/22 Herd Street, Te Aro, Wellington. Look for Switched on Bikes. This central location is just a 5-minute walk from Wellington’s I-Site Information Center and Te Papa Museum. You can pick up your eBike anytime from 9:00 AM. Enjoy up to 4 hours of riding with the Half-Day option, or extend your adventure with the Full-Day option, which allows you to ride until closing time or up to 24 hours (ensure a secure location for overnight storage, at your own risk).

Please return bikes by 5:30 PM if using them for one day.

Helmets and locks are provided, and hi-vis gear is also available. Our staff will guide you on the best routes using your Wellington cycle map, highlighting the best photo spots and places to stop for coffee, lunch, or ice cream. If you wish to swim, they will mark the beaches on your map.

As you prepare to ride your electric bike, you will receive full instructions and a safety briefing. You’ll have time to get comfortable riding in a large car-free area before setting off. The eBikes are pedal-assist, meaning you pedal like a regular bike, but the electric assist makes hills and headwinds easier. If you haven’t tried them, you’ll be amazed at their capabilities!

The most popular route begins on the easy shared paths along the Wellington Waterfront near the vibrant city center, then follows on-road cycle ways toward the Miramar peninsula. For those seeking more adventure, take regular road routes to special spots around Wellington and set the bike to full power to reach the best panoramic lookouts, such as Mt Victoria.

Off-road riding is accessible from Wellington by taking an early train or ferry after picking up the bike. Pencarrow Lighthouse is a popular destination reached by the East by West Ferry to Days Bay. Follow the coast on a dirt road to a historic lighthouse you can climb. Enjoy views across the harbor toward Wellington City, and you might spot seals and other wildlife. Note that bikes must be lifted up and down steps on the ferry if you choose this option.

The Rimutaka Rail Trail can be explored by taking the bikes on a train, then riding from Maymorn to Featherston. This world-class track is far from the city. Pack your lunch, bring your camera, and ride the old railway line through New Zealand’s forest and history. While waiting for the return train, explore Featherston’s local stores and museums.
