River Gambia National Park - Embark on a local river craft to explore the River Gambia, enjoying a 2-3 hour relaxing cruise past lush forest islands. Keep an eye out for hippos, crocodiles, baboons, monkeys, colorful birds, and chimpanzees. The cruise around River Gambia National Park (RGNP) is a must-see experience in the Gambia. A guided tour through the park offers a chance to spot rare chimpanzees and gain insights into the park’s management before returning to Kuntaur for an evening drive to Janjangbureh. From there, the journey continues to Kuntaur, where a boat is boarded for a relaxing 2-3 hour cruise along the River Gambia. During the cruise, keep an eye out for hippos, crocodiles, baboons, monkeys, colorful birds, and chimpanzees.
The cruise will circle around the River Gambia National Park (RGNP) before returning to Kuntaur for an evening drive to Janjangbureh. (Please note: Chimpanzees are kept on islands, and visitors are only permitted to sail around these islands.)
The following morning, the island is explored on foot, with departure scheduled after lunch towards the hotel.
On the return journey, if it coincides with a market day, there will be a stop to visit a ‘Lumo’ (a weekly African open flea market), offering a chance to observe traditional bartering in this unique environment. The trip will also include a visit to a local family compound to learn about traditional ways of life.
