• Mount Baker Scenic Byway - Begin your journey from Seattle and enjoy a picturesque drive towards Mt. Baker via I-5. The Mount Baker Highway (SR 542) links Bellingham to the snow-covered Mt. Baker. Originally constructed in the late 1800s as a logging access road, the highway boasts a rich and well-documented history.

Upon reaching Glacier, the road enters the Mount Baker-Snoqualmie National Forest and is recognized as a National Forest Scenic Byway. The route is lined with towering evergreens and leafy maples, with glimpses of the Nooksack River appearing at various points.

During the summer, the highway concludes at milepost 58 in a parking area, providing access to Artist Point, where visitors can enjoy stunning views of Mt. Baker’s 10,781-foot summit. This spot serves as an excellent starting point for hiking adventures on Mt. Baker.

In winter, the road ends at milepost 55, leading to the Mount Baker Ski Area, renowned for holding the world record for snowfall in a single season and recognized as the birthplace of snowboarding.

• Larrabee State Park - Take a scenic break at Larrabee State Park, Washington’s first state park, established in 1915, and a cherished coastal destination in the Pacific Northwest. Situated just seven miles south of Bellingham along the beautiful Chuckanut Drive, this 2,748-acre park offers a stunning combination of rocky beaches, ancient tide pools, old-growth forests, and expansive views across Samish Bay to the iconic San Juan Islands. Wander along the rugged shoreline of Wildcat Cove, discover the secluded Clayton Beach with its intriguing sandstone formations, and watch for bald eagles, harbor seals, and great blue herons along the water’s edge.

The charm of the Village lies in its local offerings, unique to Whatcom County, making it an ideal day trip from Seattle. No visit to Bellingham is complete without checking off a few items from this list.
• Heather Meadows Visitor Center - Constructed in 1940 by the Civilian Conservation Corps as a ski warming hut, the Heather Meadows Visitor Center was meticulously restored using rock and heavy timber to harmonize with the surrounding environment. Perched on a rock ledge at the edge of the Austin Pass Picnic Area, the center overlooks Bagley Lakes in the Heather Meadows area, located along the upper reaches of the Mt. Baker Scenic Byway, State Route 542.
• Artist Point - After navigating the Mount Baker Highway, the breathtaking mountain scenery culminates at Artist Point. A short hike offers magnificent views of Mount Baker, the volcanic peak southwest of Artist Point. Even from the parking lot, visitors can enjoy the stunning sight of Mt. Shuksan and the North Cascade Range. Hiking trails, including the brief Artist Ridge trail, provide opportunities to appreciate the views in every direction.
• Nooksack Falls - Nooksack Falls (mile 40)
  A brief drive off the main highway along Wells Creek Road (a well-maintained dirt road) leads to the viewing area for this enchanting misty waterfall.
• Picture Lake - Picture Lake (mile 55)
  For much of the year, this highly photogenic little lake marks the furthest point accessible along the Mount Baker Highway. The road encircles the lake, as does a flat and accessible half-mile trail. From the trail (or your parking spot), you can enjoy a spectacular view of Mt. Shuksan, beautifully reflected in the tranquil lake.
