Positives: Nate was very calm and nice. The sunset was very beautiful on the water. This is a good cruise for elderly, very small children, or anyone not accustomed to the water. Neutrals: I think Sunset Cruise should provide a little more information to prospective customers in order to set expectations for this cruise. The cruise involved simply sitting on a bench seat at the back of the boat. We were not allowed near the sides, front, or even the water. The winds were out of the south and strong, which I thought would be exciting, but they simply slowed WAAAAY down in order to avoid ANY rocking. This is great for people that get seasick (which there was a woman on board that did feel sick), but it did lessen the overall experience of sailing (for me personally). Then, we had to motor back in at a very low speed to get back to the marina (no sailing the second half of the cruise...which really was not a change from the sailing segment since we very slowly trolled along). Negatives: The two gentlemen that operated the boat bickered quite a bit about how to steer, sail, direction, etc...it was funny at times, but not because they were trying to be funny. It reminded me of the Odd Couple lol. Also, if you opt to order food, be prepared for NOBODY at the resort, the tackle shop, or the restaurant to have any idea of how to do this. The food was good, and it did ultimately get delivered to the boat in time for the cruise, but we had to eat it below deck (with no AC) before we could depart. I suppose I had envisioned eating while we sailed. Also, we weren't sure if we should bring a cooler, drinks, ice. We did bring drinks, but there was no cooler to place them in for the 2 1/2 hour cruise. I don't know anything about sailing, but I spent my life on lakes and in boats. The captain (who talked about his Navy experience and sailboat racing expertise) ran over a crab pot/net that he did not see and got it caught up in the motor. I was surprised that he did not shut the motor down, or at least place the propeller in neutral when he realized what had happened. Luckily, when the boat failed to move forward, he placed it in reverse and the crab pot popped out from under the boat and we were free. As we were coming in at dusk, the buoy markers were flashing in the distance to guide us back to port. They could not find them, however, and seemed not to have any real knowledge of the landmarks that might have helped them. There was also a fiasco (2 actually) in attempting to dock the boat. Overall, I would give this cruise a neutral rating. Not bad, not great....but this is likely due to my personal expectations. I spent about $375 for 4 people plus a $40 cash tip...too much for what we got. There was another couple on the boat that literally did not speak (she was sick) and they were probably annoyed with us for laughing and joking out loud.
