A must-do tour and approach to the park - This was such a good way to see Petra. Starting at Little Petra and approaching the Monastery from the back allowed me to see everything without backtracking and allowed me to get to the Monastery before the crowds. And Abdullah was such a good guide; he explained the history of the park, the region, each of the major sites, and the Beduin culture.

Book It! - This was the perfect way to experience Petra! Abdullah knows a lot of the local history and the modern scholarship. My trip felt like I was taking it with a friend.

Stunning views and historical sights in one. - Entering Petra via the back route is definitely the way to go. The views along the way are just incredible. It takes around 2 hours and you need a moderate level of fitness, but I'm 71 and certainly not an athlete, and I managed without any trouble. My guide, Abdullah, was the best. He spoke excellent English, is a native of the area and had an extensive knowledge of the history and was very informative and interesting to listen to. He also allowed me to make the hike at my own pace! There are a couple of places along the way where you can rest and have a cup of tea, but make sure you take plenty of water with you anyway.
It's a wonderful sight as you round the bend and see The Monastery. For those who have come the conventional way from the front entrance it's the last building they see and have to climb over 800 steps. Via the back route it's the first building you see and you only have to go down those steps! From there you head towards the front entrance and past all the many other sights, including of course The Treasury, the most famous of all, although The Monastery is actually larger.
I can highly recommend this tour, you won't be disappointed.

See and experience more with Abullah. - Of course, you can just walk around Petra and enjoy this wonder of the world, but if you want to see and hear more details, it is better to take a guide. We had a very good guide with whom we walked around for two days. His name is Abullah. He is a Bedouin, born in one of the caves in Petra. He knows the area very well. Abullah is very patient. He adapts to the pace his guests want. He speaks good English. His sister still lives in one of those caves. We were allowed to drink tea with her. That was very special. Abullah said that he can also arrange for his guests to have lunch with her in the afternoon. There are many (certified) guides in Petra. Abullah is also certified. If you are looking for a good guide, we would definitely recommend Abullah.

Best way to explore Petra - go with Abdullah - We are family of 4, including two kids- 13 and 8. We only had 1 full day to spend but wanted to cover a lot at Petra: Backdoor Petra, Monastery, High place of sacrifice, Royal tombs, city center, archeological sites and needed an authentic local lunch. Abdullah was ver patient with us, customized the whole trek to minute details and delivered for us memories for a lifetime. Thank you.

Fantastic day in Petra - I did this tour with my mom, and Abdullah was an excellent guide! Very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable about the area. It’s a long day with hiking involved so come prepared with sturdy shoes, water, a hat and some energy bars etc. Highly recommended! Thank you Abdullah!

The best local Bedouin tour guide ever in Petra - If you want to really “visit” and “see” Petra, you cannot miss the tour with Abdullah. Abdullah is a local Bedouin guide who grew up inside Petra and he knows everything about this land. I listened to so many stories and learned so much from him about the culture, history of Bedouin and Petra. He knows all the best routes to avoid crowds but also will take you to see those hidden spots that no one else knows. Abdullah even took great pictures for me. As a solo traveller this is such a highlight. He can help you literally with everything you can possibly think of. Most importantly, he truly cares and loves this land and wants to share his culture with everyone. The only regret I have after meeting Abdullah is that I only stay one day in Petra. If I had known him I would definitely buy 2 day pass in Petra and book with him more tours apart from the Petra walking tours. Highly recommend

Petra done right: amazing guide… - A great experience, well organised from the beginning and exceeded our highest expectations. Hamoud our guide and excellent photographer - words cannot describe our appreciation and recognition of his knowledge of the area - and he was a really nice person too!! He supported and encouraged us to achieve things we doubt we would have done on our own. Thank you!!

Poor experience with Abdullah. We wanted to learn about Petra and unfortunately he was not in a good mood. - Our group unfortunately had a very different and disappointing time with Abdullah. When we first met him he seemed happy and excited to share information with us and then about an hour or so into the day his attitude changed. He offered for us to go to his sisters for lunch and kept mentioning different things we could do with his family. It felt like he was trying to sell us on additional options and then was upset when we declined. He didn't even tell us about Petra being known for it's intricate water systems...we learned that from a video in the visitors center. When we were at lunch we tried asking him questions and he only gave us one word answers. Most of the tour he was walking in front of us and seemed angry. It was really unfortunate because it was a once in a lifetime opportunity and we had a guide who didn't want to speak with us.

BE AWARE! - We went to the Petra visitor’s center at 7:30am as stated in the description of this Viator ticket. My friend and I waited until 7:40am and tried to contact the guide. As you can see in the pictures with the time stamp, the message saying that the driver will be there in 10 min, came at 8:18am. We decided to leave at 8:20am since the extreme tardiness and the fact that a guide in a popular destination did not have WhatsApp seemed off. Contrary to what they had said earlier, they reached out to me hours later at 2pm on WhatsApp asking if I was still in Petra and that they live in the Bedouin village. I am currently waiting for a refund since this all feels like a scam and I never received this tour.
