• Corticarte - Cork Art - The day starts with a visit to a farmhouse, where it’s learned that cork is the bark of the cork oak, a type of oak tree. This bark has remarkable properties: it’s lightweight, elastic, and fire-resistant, among others.

Each year, the bark grows, but it should only be harvested every nine years, reaching up to 25 centimeters in thickness. This provides excellent protection for the tree against heat, cold, and fires. After harvesting, the tree regenerates a new layer of bark.

Did you know that Portugal produces 55% of the world’s cork? It’s highly valued globally for decorative cork coatings on walls and floors, and for manufacturing sporting goods. It’s even the perfect material for baseball cores or fishing rod handles. However, cork is most famous as the material for wine stoppers, allowing minimal oxygen contact with the wine, preserving its aging process.

• Roman Temple of Evora (Temple of Diana) - Near the Evora Cathedral, the ancient “Temple of Diana” from the Roman era offers a view of the magnificent “Agua da Prata” aqueduct. This structure extends from outside the city walls to the outskirts, with some arches still visible within the city. It was built in the 16th century to ensure water transportation.

• Historic Center of Evora - The Arabs constructed the streets and alleys in the 11th and 12th centuries. Evora was home to some Portuguese kings and a hub for renowned artists, supported by the patronage and reigning dynasty in Portugal. The Age of Discoveries brought glory to Evora, fostering the construction of numerous aristocratic mansions and the Jesuit university.
