Orava Castle is not only a rock-hewn fortress; it also holds a place in film history. Scenes from the 1922 silent horror classic “Nosferatu: A Symphony of Horror” were filmed here, marking it as one of the earliest Dracula filming sites.

En route to Orava Castle, there is a stop in Terchová, the birthplace of Jánošík, where a stainless-steel statue of this legendary 18th-century Carpathian outlaw overlooks the village. Both Slovakia and Poland celebrate Jánošík as a part of their national folklore.
