What I missed in my college Humanities course. - My wife and I had an amazing experience at the Belvedere with our private tour guide Julia. She was so knowledgeable and passionate about conveying the why’s as well as the how’s of some of the great art at the Belvedere. Great discussion on the symbolic color choices dictated by tradition in the early religious painting which immediately inform the viewer, whether a current day art historian or a medieval peasant as to the status and motives of the subjects of the painting. As a neuroscientist I was impressed with the story behind the funny faces sculptures of Messerschmitt and can see how the changing times and increasing interest in psychiatry and psychoanalysis in the time of Freud, changed his reputation from a pariah to a visionary artist. Finally, the “Star”‘of the collection - the Klimpt paintings including the famous “The Kiss”. Julia described how the faces of his portraits are all beautiful (as dictated by his patrons), but pay attention to the hands and their gestures - those reveal the underlying emotion of the subject. Just a wonderful experience and highly recommended.

It was much more than a Klimt tour. It was a great in-depth art history tour! - We did not expect this tour to go into the history of art in Austria from earlier periods, but our guide advised us to look at some pieces to trace the development of art, promising that it would make us appreciate Klimt's works more. And we really did learn to appreciate Klimt's creativity and talent more completely. Seeing how much Klimt was able to put into his art made us respect and admire his work so much more. The Kiss is a masterpiece like no other! We loved this tour and would highly recommend it!

Klimt The Kiss - We enjoyed our private visit with Julia. We learned things we had never known before. The importance of color, materials, symbolism in influencing Klimt’s early and later works. I don’t think we would have understood half as much if we done the tour on our own. Viewing “The Kiss” was worth the journey to Vienna.

Klimt tour of the The Kiss - We really enjoyed our tour of Gustav Klimt's, The Kiss. What we found valuable was our guide taking us through a few exhibits of historic art that influenced him. It gave context to his painting style, his use of color and design. I learned some valuable things about him that I did not know before. I greatly appreciated that and now look at his art in all of its beauty in a slightly different way. Thank you so much.

A fabulous private tour with a great guide - Our guide, Julia gave a wonderful tour which included not just Klimt but a great deal more art history. We learned how to discern specific parts of a painting for example. The Klimt paintings were exquisite and Julia’s knowledge added so much to our enjoyment and appreciation. A private tour is a great way to get the most out of the experience. Thank you again Julia!

The story behind the picture - Julia was a really knowledgeable expert on art history and provided us with a stimulating and provocative insight into the evolution of art, Klimt and The Kiss. I'm no art history expert but learnt a lot from this tour. If you're looking for intellectual stimulation and the story behind the picture, look no further.

Make sure you keep copies of receipts and pictures! - The tour person never showed up. We ended up buying tickets and touring ourselves with an audio guide. Then we got charged by the tour operator! $343.36. Be careful.
