- Citadel - The journey begins with a pick-up from your location in Malta around 9:00 am, heading to the Cirkewwa Ferry Terminal in the north to catch the 09:45 am ferry. The ferry ride to the island of Gozo takes approximately 30 minutes.
The Citadella, located in Gozo’s capital, is a striking fortification strategically built on a hill, offering panoramic views of the island and its landscape. The ramparts provide a perfect vantage point for visitors and photography enthusiasts. Its history dates back to the late medieval period, with the hill being settled since Neolithic times.
Visitors can explore the narrow streets and ramparts or visit the Fort Visitor Centre located in the ditch, which is accessible to all.
A visit to the local pastizzi shops is recommended, where you can try this delightful pastry filled with peas or cheese.
Lunch is advised at this time, with ample time provided to explore the site and enjoy a meal.
- Ggantija Archaeological Park - Situated in Xaghra, this impressive structure is recognized as the oldest freestanding megalithic structure in the world. The Ġgantija Temples, dating from 3600 to 3200 BC, are part of the UNESCO World Heritage List. The site is accessible to all, including its interpretation centre, which is also worth a visit.
Entrance fees range from €4 to €8, with the possibility of combining it with a visit to Ta’ Kola Windmill, a 10-minute walk from the site.
- Xerri’s Grotto - Located in Xaghra, Gozo, Xerri’s Grotto is an underground site discovered in 1923 beneath a house while digging for a well.
This small cave is renowned for its unique and colorful alabaster stalactites and stalagmites, with calcification formations ranging from 25 cm to a meter in height.
Access is via a 10-meter spiral staircase, and the cave is artificially lit. The owners provide a brief tour, highlighting the geological formations created over millennia. The cave is open Monday to Saturday from 09:00 to 18:00, with an entrance fee of €2.50 for adults.
- Calypso Cave - Overlooking the stunning red sands of Gozo’s finest beach, Ramla l-Ħamra, Calypso’s Cave is believed to be the cave mentioned by Homer in The Odyssey. Legend has it that Gozo is Homer’s Island of Ogygia, and the cave is where the nymph Calypso held Odysseus as a “prisoner of love” for seven years.
The connection to Homer is fascinating, and the views of the picturesque Ramla Bay are breathtaking. Below Calypso’s Cave are the ruins of a fortification built by the Knights of Malta in the mid-18th century for defense against invaders.
Due to geological movement, the cave and part of the promontory are inaccessible to the public, but the belvedere offers stunning views of the surrounding landscape.

Ta’ Pinu National Shrine - The Sanctuary of Ta’ Pinu is an architectural marvel located in an isolated area of Gozo, in the valley between the villages of Gharb and Ghammar. It is a shrine dedicated to Our Lady of Ta’ Pinu, welcoming visitors who wish to pray or admire the exquisite sculptures and craftsmanship of the Maltese stone designs inside the church.
-
Dwejra Inland Sea - The geology and sea have combined to create spectacular coastal scenery at Dwejra on the west coast. Two large underground caverns in the limestone have collapsed, forming two circular depressions now occupied by Dwejra Bay and the Inland Sea. The Azure Window, a massive natural arch in the sea cliffs that attracted many tourists, collapsed into the sea in March 2017 due to natural erosion. Large underwater sections of the arch can be seen on 15-minute boat trips from the Inland Sea, and the surrounding coastal landscapes remain stunning and worth visiting.

Xlendi - Xlendi Malta Bay Gozo is situated at the base of a steep valley starting from the village of Kercem.
As you descend to the Bay, you can appreciate the lush greenery, and depending on the season, notice the abundance of cane growing in the valley, arriving at the car park shortly after.
Due to its geological formation and shallow sloping pebbly beach, the Bay was once a quiet fishing village, where some fishermen still maintain a few remaining boathouses.
The promenade, though small, is charming, especially in summer when it is lined with tables near the seashore, allowing for a relaxing meal by the water’s edge.
This will be the final stop for the day, with the group gathering around 04:10 pm to head to the Mgarr ferry and catch the 04:30 pm ferry back to Malta.
