Setting Sail to Vestmannaeyjar

Our journey began with a sense of anticipation as we embarked on the ferry from Landeyjahöfn to Vestmannaeyjar, the Westman Islands. The ferry ride itself was a delightful prelude to the adventure that awaited us. Upon arrival, we were greeted by Justin, our guide for the day. His warm demeanor and infectious enthusiasm immediately put everyone at ease. As a museum curator, I appreciated the thoughtful design and the way it brought the past to life.

After a delightful lunch at a local restaurant, pre-booked by Justin, we continued our exploration at Skansinn. The Viking Wood Church and the lighthouse offered breathtaking views of the cliffs and the sea beyond. Our adventure culminated with a hike up Mt. Eldfell, where we were rewarded with panoramic views of the island and its surrounding lava fields. It was a fitting end to a day filled with wonder and discovery.

As we made our way back to the harbor, I reflected on the day’s experiences. The Westman Islands had offered us a perfect blend of natural beauty, wildlife encounters, and historical insights.
