In 1658, a marriage took place between Karen Mowat, Norway’s wealthiest heiress, and Ludvig Rosenkrantz, a Danish nobleman. As a wedding gift, they received the Hatteberg farm, where they constructed their residence, naming it Rosendal. Completed in 1665, a guided tour of the Manor House offers a journey through various eras. The rooms reflect the influence of owners over 250 years, and the Manor House remains preserved as a home, just as it was when the last owners departed in 1927.

The Folgefonn Centre was inaugurated on 2 May 2017.

Located in the village of Rosendal on the Hardangerfjord, the new Folgefonn Centre features interactive exhibits on the Folgefonna National Park, marine life in the Hardangerfjord, the global water cycle, sustainable natural resource use, and climate change.

We will embark on a 3-hour journey towards Rosendal, drifting through awe-inspiring fjords and navigating past scenic islands. Upon reaching Rosendal, a 10-minute walk will lead us to the Baroniet and the Rosendal Gardens.

Residing in the heart of historical ambiance is the small manor house from the 1660s, owned by Ludvig Rosenkrantz and Karen Mowatt. This manor is encircled by exquisite grounds that house a Renaissance garden, a romantic landscape garden, and the kitchen garden. Rosendal Garden offers an imposing sight of the surrounding Malmangernuten, Melderskin and Laurdalstind mountains, the waterfalls of Hattebergfossen, and the expansive Hardangerfjorden. The garden, shaped by centuries of evolving gardening trends and styles, lets you relish over 300 years of garden history. It is recommended to enjoy a lunch break at the Garden cafeteria.
