Don’t see the Versailles gardens without Alistair as your guide - Going to Paris for the first time and not visiting Versailles is almost impossible. Therefore, we booked this tour more with the intent of doing like everybody else rather than being blown away by the site. Were we ever wrong! Incredible tour, thanks to Alistair! His love for Versailles, its history and gardens is contagious. We spent an exceptional visit in his company. His perfectly timed schedule allowed our group to see the most spectacular fountains come to life when he, so expertly, guided us from one “bosquet” to another. With each explanation/story this historical site came to life . Because of Alistair, it became easy to imagine kings and queens with their royal court walking down the same paths we were on. It was almost like we expected Louis XIV to appear around the next bosquet. The visit of Marie-Antoinette’s hamlet was as exciting, beautiful and informative. Alistair was very attentive to the needs and questions of the members of the group; helping those with walking difficulty manage some of the steps, offering to take pictures of us, individuals or couples, in front of the different fountains and, believe it or not, having us feed the ducks, geese and swans by one of the ponds (he had brought a loaf of bread with him). Yes, Versailles in itself is a sight to see but what Alistair did for us was to bring to life the time period, the characters, the marvels of design and engineering. Over our lifetime we have taken many guided tours learning about many a beautiful thing, place or event. By far, Alistair exceeded all of our expectations. His love, passion and wealth of knowledge and his willingness to share some of it with us set him in a class apart from the rest when it comes to tours as such as this. Thanks again, Alistair, for a wonderful experience at Versailles! Johanne & Denis

Alastair - Alastair’s honest passion for all things Versailles is apparent from the way he weaves an incredible picture of court life of Louis the 14th-16! We were glad we spent most of our time in the gardens exploring the many fountains for which Alastair timed our arrivals perfectly! It was also beneficial to have gotten so much history from Alastair about the Sun King for our visit to the Louvre the following day. Highly recommend!

Excellent tour of the... - Excellent tour of the gardens and the Petite Trianon (exterior only). Alistair was friendly and very knowledgeable. The fountains and gardens were impressive. Petite Trianon was peaceful and picturesque. It would have been nice to see the inside of the cottage as well. Be prepared for lots of walking. The "train" ride was helpful but some older members of the group were struggling by the end of the tour. Highly recommend Alistair and this tour if you have the time and physical abilities.

Best tour and guide! - We loved this tour! From the very friendly and personable guide, to the detailed history that was shared and the amusing side stories of the history of the palace and the most notorious of the kings, to the casual pace and many picture opportunities, this had to be one of the best tours we have ever done. We would highly recommend!

Alistair understands the... - Alistair understands the gardens and his clients. He brings the gardens and fountains and the flora and designs to life. My family, including 4 kids (ages 19, 17, 13, & 11) felt like we were with Louis 14, 15, & 16 and reliving the history of France. We appreciated his historical perspective and stories.
