• Teatro La Fenice - In the late 18th century, Venice was home to seven esteemed theaters, two dedicated to drama and five to music. Among these prestigious venues, none shone brighter than the Teatro San Benedetto, located near Campo San Luca. Established by the illustrious Grimani family in 1755, it later came under the control of the Noble Society of boxholders.

However, a significant event occurred in 1787, when a judicial agreement led to the society’s expulsion from their beloved theater. They were forced to relinquish this cherished stage to the Venier nobility, who owned the land on which the theater stood. In response, the society embarked on an ambitious project to build a new, grander theater, which they aptly named the Gran Teatro La Fenice.

The first recorded mention of the Rio dell’Alboro dates back to 1696, while the Rio de le Ostreghe appears in records during the following century. It is likely that vendors of these delicious seafood creatures once operated in the area. The cultivation of such seafood, especially in the lagoon, saw significant growth, particularly in the first half of the 19th century.
