- Burrard Street Bridge - Approaching the oldest bridge in Vancouver, the Burrard Street Bridge. Its stunning exterior conceals some intriguing secrets. Inside the south tower is a stairwell that once linked the bridge to Vanier Park. It was sealed nearly 100 years ago, but the reason remains unknown!
- Kitsilano Beach Park - Kitsilano Beach Park is on our right. Look out for breathtaking views of the beach and English Bay. If you have time, don’t miss the heated outdoor pool, Canada’s longest at 137 meters! The saltwater pool is open seasonally from May to September.
- Kitsilano - Welcome to Kitsilano! Known locally as “Kits,” this neighborhood is considered one of the most desirable places to live in British Columbia, especially for young professionals.
- Jericho Beach Park - We are about to pass Jericho Beach Park. Jericho Beach is named after Jeremiah Rogers, a 19th-century logger who once worked in this area.
- Locarno Park - Ahead is Locarno Beach, ideal for a serene escape. This beach is legally quiet! Amplified sound is prohibited, so don’t expect many beach parties here. Park in any upcoming lots if you wish to visit, or continue driving.
- Spanish Banks Beach Park - This beach is the largest in the Vancouver area. Its sandy shores extend a mile along the far western edge of Vancouver City. Due to its proximity to the University of British Columbia, the beach attracts college students seeking a break from studies, as well as other adventurous individuals looking for good waves.
- University of British Columbia - We are heading toward the University of British Columbia. In many ways, the story of Vancouver’s largest university reflects the story of the city itself, particularly regarding the university’s relationship with First Nations people.
- Nitobe Memorial Garden - Look for the traditional Japanese garden on our left as we pass. This is Nitobe Memorial Garden, and calling it a Japanese garden is not just a figure of speech. When Japan’s 125th emperor, Akihito, walked through the garden in 2009, he reportedly said, “I am in Japan” due to the garden’s authenticity.
- UBC Botanical Garden & Centre for Plant Research - This brings us to the end of our tour at the UBC Botanical Garden. From here, you can explore the renowned Treewalk or simply wander around the garden itself! If you haven’t already taken the tour of Vancouver Downtown, be sure to try it to see more of this incredible city!
- Gastown Steam Clock - The clock features steam-powered whistles and a small engine that uses steam to wind the clock. It is one of only seven functioning steam clocks in the world!
- Robson Square - This is Robson Square. It houses some of the province’s most significant courts, as well as a fantastic covered skating rink!
- Stanley Park - The Stanley Park Totem Poles are among Vancouver’s most iconic sights, inspired by the carved poles created by First Nations communities for centuries. These towering artworks represent ancestry, stories, and spiritual symbols, serving as a powerful reminder of the people who first inhabited this land.
- Nine O’Clock Gun - The Nine O’Clock Gun is a historic cannon in Stanley Park that still fires every evening at 9:00 PM. It gained fame from a 1969 mystery when it was stolen and returned only after a ransom donation was raised—an act pulled off by UBC engineering students.
- Prospect Point Lookout - Prospect Point Lookout is a short, easy walk from the parking area and offers breathtaking ocean views and views of the Lions Gate Bridge.
