As we marvel at these ancient trees, we’ll also learn about the ecological importance of old-growth forests and the threats they face today. This is the only tour in Vancouver that explores its ancient big trees. Just a short walk from downtown Vancouver, participants will be guided by renowned big tree enthusiast Colin Spratt through the city’s last ancient forest in the historic Stanley Park. The tour spans approximately 3 hours, during which visitors will encounter giant ancient cedars over 800 years old, towering firs as tall as skyscrapers, and gain insights into the park’s history. By utilizing old maps, century-old postcards, and archival photos from Vancouver, the tour pieces together the history of the ancient forest and its urban surroundings. This is a truly unique opportunity to experience the last remaining section of Vancouver’s original ancient landscape, now largely lost.
