Guests will be equipped with inflatable life jackets and wet weather gear for cooler conditions.
A short walk to the harbor leads to an exciting trip on the custom-designed Dream Catcher. The Southern Right Whale Season typically runs from June to December, but Humpback and Bryde’s whales can occasionally be seen throughout the year. Other highlights include visiting shark cage diving vessels to view great white sharks, and trips to Dyer Island and Geyser Rock to see penguins and seals. Guests may also spot one of three dolphin species: the Common dolphin, the Humpback, or the Indo-Pacific Bottlenose dolphin. An onboard biologist and experienced crew ensure an educational and memorable experience for the entire family.
After the sea trip, guests return to The Great White House for warm soup and bread, enjoying the cozy fire or the summer sun. A debriefing follows, and trip footage is available for purchase.
The trip also includes a visit to the African Penguin and Seabird Sanctuary (APSS) either before or after the excursion.

- African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary - The African Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary (APSS) is a custom-designed, world-class marine bird rehabilitation center in the Overstrand area. It provides temporary rehabilitative care to diseased, displaced, injured, oiled, and abandoned marine birds, with a special focus on the endangered African Penguin. Marine bird rescue, rehabilitation, and release are part of the conservation management plan to conserve and maintain African Penguin populations and other seabirds. Through ongoing research, education, and awareness programs, we aim to mitigate human impacts on our colonies.

Incredible trips - so much to see 5* - Incredible morning out on the boat.. saw humpback whales / who put on a real show <3 just amazing - what a thing to see!! Also saw brown whaling sharks by the shark boat, fur seals - hundreds.. so sweet! Loads of sea birds, African penguins too. Everyone at the centre was so polite and friendly, delicious muffins on arrival and hot soup after the boat trip. Highly recommend *****

A World-Class Experience - I had the pleasure of joining the Marine Big 5 Tour with Marine Dynamics last Sunday, and it was an unforgettable experience from start to finish.
The entire team was incredibly friendly, professional, and passionate about the ocean and its wildlife. Their knowledge and enthusiasm made the trip both exciting and educational. Every detail was well organised, and we felt safe and well looked after throughout the tour.
Seeing the incredible marine life in its natural environment was truly a highlight, and the crew went above and beyond to make sure everyone had the best possible experience while always respecting the animals and their habitat.
I highly recommend Marine Dynamics to anyone visiting Gansbaai or looking for a unique ocean adventure. Thank you to the amazing team for creating such wonderful memories—I can't wait to join another tour in the future!

Thank you for the amazing tour - guide shared interesting facts about the animals we have sighted. they also regularly checked in with us to make sure no one was feeling too ill. they gave us an amazing trip, allowing us to see creatures you would not normally see up close or at all.

Pirate Ships and Baby Sharrrrrk - Our journey to Gansbaai began with packing Monkee, Dino, and many other little toys in anticipation of our overnight adventure to Marine Dynamics to encounter the spectacular Marine Big Five.
Arriving as the last guests at Marine House, we were immediately met with the warmest of welcomes. After a long drive from Cape Town, the kindness, genuine care, and thoughtful attention shown to both us and little Blakey were incredibly reassuring and set the tone for what would be a memorable stay.
With excitement building, we got togged up and made our way down to the harbour, ready to board our boat and embark on an unforgettable Marine Big Five experience. The fresh sea air, bustling harbour, and sense of adventure made it clear that something truly special awaited us on the ocean.

Amazing Marine Big 5 tour - The whole experience was fantastic from start to finish, starting from a warm welcome at the Marine Dynamics office, where you get a quick assistance with the check in. Complimentary coffee and muffins before the briefing are a lovely touch, and the soup served afterwards is delicious and is very much needed after being out in the sea.
The boat is well set up to ensure everyone has a good view of the ocean and the opportunity to spot wildlife. It feels expeditionary, yet very comfortable, safe and extremely educational, as guides are sharing lots of information during the tour.
I also liked that every member of the team take the time to check in with guests individually, answer questions and make sure that everyone is comfortable and enjoying the tour.
What really stands out is the company's commitment to conservation and the amount of work they do to protect the local marine environment and the community.
We saw lots of sea life, including several humpback whales, penguins swimming, sharks, stingrays and the whole island of seals which is an incredible highlight.
We bought a couple of penguin houses to support one of the conservation projects, and also poped in to the Penguin & Seabird Sanctuary after the tour, where you can meet rescue penguins and do some nice curio shopping.
Overall - amazing experience, super professional team and amazing conservation efforts!

The Day of our life! - We did the Marine Big 5 Tour and it was an incredible experience! First, I must emphasize that the entire communication, organization, safety, and conservation efforts of this provider are outstanding. They really pay attention to everything. And then, on May 8th, 2026, we had the unbelievable luck to see penguins, sharks, seals, a humpback whale, and sunfish. We were already thrilled with the boat tour alone, but this surpassed everything. We are grateful and wish Marine Dynamics every success.

Don't Miss South Africa's Marine Big 5 - We can't say enough about our Marine Big 5 Trip with Marine Dynamics. From the convenient pick up at out Hermanus hotel to the lovely coffee, tea, and muffins awaiting us (andvthe delucious and watming siup and bread afterwards), the comfortable boat ride, and all of the amazing and plentiful marine life, Marine Dynamics was the perfect host for a wet and wild Marine expedition. Thrilled that we saw all 5!!

Truly memorable experience - It was a truly memorable experience, I have never seen so many (types of) dolphins in my life! The staff on and off the boat were exceptional. Everyone was very friendly and went out of their way to accommodate every guest. The information provided from the guides on the boat was really good and informative. I can highly recommend this tour to everyone.

Beautiful experience for all ages! - Amazing tour! Staff and crew are so informative and helpful. The boat is comfortable for any age (my 3 year old moved it!) and there is enough room to move around. From the meeting spot and safety briefing to the ending with warm soup, the entire trip is well thought out. Safety is a priority but spotting wildlife is what it's all about and boy did we get lucky with the marine big 5! The fact that it was a beautiful day and Marine Dynamics does research and conservation is a huge plus! ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Great day out - a comfortable way to experience the Marine Big 5 - We had a great day out searching for the Marine Big 5 and found them all! The weather was perfect, so we are aware we were very luck in this respect - bright sunshine, clear skies and calm seas... although I would recommend preparing yourselves with sea-sickness meds as even in calm waters, you still bounce around a little.
The whole set up is great, clear safety instructions, life vests and waterproof coats provided, commentary along the way with information on what we could see and a bowl of delicious soup on our return. if you're looking to tick the animals from the ocean off your list it's a great way to do it.
