If you like honey and want to learn from melipona bees, do not hesitate to visit Xkopek - We love honey, so in Valladolid we couldn’t stop taking this tour to meet the famous melipona bees of Yucatan and the truth was an experience where we learned a lot about these insects and their famous healing honey. From the beginning, the park is close to the center, so getting there is not complicated or expensive if you are going by taxi. They welcome you in a cabin in the middle of the vegetation and give you a first explanation about the particularities of the melipone bee spice and your guide explains in detail everything you see on the tour. From there you walk to a dry cenote that is a huge cave where you can see some wild honeycombs of meliponas and explain in detail with supports on a tablet the characteristics of each of the subspecies that are there. From there they take you around the park to the bee drawers where you can see them working on making honey and the explanation follows in detail. Finishing seeing the honey drawers, you arrive at the back of the cabin where you tast the various products and types of honey they collect, from pollen, concentrates and honey candy along with a delicious water sweetened also with the park product, which is included in the cost of $230 per person. Finally, the experience ends in the park shop where after understanding that this honey is special and more than a common sweetener is a natural medicinal remedy you can buy from tinctures to honey candy, through a wide variety of products. Melipone honey is not cheap, but its characteristics make it very valuable for health and we do not hesitate to buy several products to have the apothecary at home. The whole tour takes you about 1.5 to 2 hours and I understand that there are also campsites and cabins in this location to stay and offer breakfast or lunch with the tour, only we did not meet them on this occasion and we can not give our opinion on it. If you like nature, walking in the jungle and seeing insects in their natural environment, do not hesitate to take this tour, and if you are afraid of a bee sting remember that melipons have no sting, so no problem!

Informative and Fun Bee Tour + Tasting - My husband and I visited Xkopek without a tour reservation as we had heard Vallodolid has a large beekeeping community and wanted to check one out. We were short on time and the team accommodated an impromptu tour and honey tasting. I knew very little about bees and beekeeping prior and found the tour fascinating and informative. The two young men who guided our tour were very knowledgeable about the property, the different types of bees and their behavior, and the honey extraction process. They showed us some of their beehives and explained the different roles of the bees within the hive. We were given a tasting of the different types of honeys produced and learned about their medicinal benefits. I purchased a few different honeys and their homemade honey cough drops and lotion. When I got back to the US, I came down with a cold and the honey syrup and cough drops have made a big difference. I would highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Vallodolid! You’ll might just leave and want to start your own bee hive :)

AMAZING honey tasting and tour!! - You must come and do this honey tasting and tour if you’re in Vallodalid. It was a highlight for us!! Absolutely sensational guide - we learnt so much in a beautiful setting! Seeing the bees (including a queen bee) in their hives up close was brilliant too. The honey tasting was delicious and we got a few pots to take home. Highly recommend!

Ok, not great - A quick rattle round the site with a tasting afterwards. We didn’t stay for lunch and couldn’t use the credit in the shop. If you have done everything else in Valladolid then come here too because the guide was pleasant, but it’s not been a highlight of my holiday

Tour was ok - be carefull when you pay! - We had a tour with the five of us. Two adults and our three little kids. It was interesting to learn about the dry cenote and the different bees and the honey tasting was nice. Just be attentive when you pay for the tour in the shop. The guy at the till clearly wanted to rip us off by charging different prices than published on the website and even asking money for little kids and a baby. He tried to apologise for it but it wasn't a great feeling to start the experience. Without kids, we would have left.
