Echmiatsin serves as the sacred center of the Armenian Apostolic Church and is recognized as the oldest state-constructed church globally. Visitors can explore the “Treasures of Echmiatsin” museum, which houses the Holy Lance (Spear), relics of the Apostles of Jesus and John the Baptist, and a piece of Noah’s Ark.

Saint Hripsime Church, a 7th-century Armenian Apostolic church, was constructed by Catholicos Komitas over the site of the martyred Saint Hripsime, to whom the church is dedicated. Similarly, the Church of Saint Gayane, another 7th-century Armenian church located in Etchmiadzin, was built by Catholicos Ezra I in 630. This church honors the abbess Gayane and marks the location where Saint Gayane was martyred.

The Zvartnots temple, also built in the 7th century near Ejmiatsin, stands as a remarkable example of world architecture.

In 2000, Zvartnots, along with the churches of St. Hripsimeh, St. Gayaneh, and the Mother Cathedral in Echmiadzin, was designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
