Enter the Salar via Colchani to observe salt processing and salt mounds, visit the salt hotel, water springs, and continue to the center to explore Incahuasi Island, known for its volcanic rock and giant cacti. Climbing to the top offers an extraordinary view of the white salt plain.

Next, travel north for several kilometers to the Tunupa volcano, where visitors can explore the Pucara of Ayque (pre-Columbian ruins) with stunning views, Coquesa Mummies, and the Mirador de Thunupa. Ascend by car near its crater for a breathtaking view of the Salar in all its splendor.

Tahua - Stop and overnight in Salt Hotel.
Stay overnight at the Hotel Tayka de Sal, an ecological model hotel with private bathrooms, heating, and excellent service. The hotel is located at the base of the majestic Tunupa volcano.

Tahua - Day 2 (B, L, D)

In the morning, visit Fish Island and then proceed to Mala Mala Bay, at the opposite end of the Salar, to head to Galaxy Cave, an extraordinary site featuring ancestral burials and petrified cacti.

To the south are the Cañapa, Stinking, Chiarkota, Honda, and Ramadita lagoons, home to large numbers of flamingos. Other birds, such as geese and Andean gulls, accompany the flamingos in these lagoons, flanked by snow-capped volcanoes with green skirts of brava straw, yareta, and thola.

Siloli Desert - Enter the desert of sand and pebbles, where the landscapes are painted in beautiful shades, to reach the hotel.

Arbol de Piedra - Day 3: (B, L)

At dawn, set out to find the well-known geysers Sol de Mañana, arriving with the first rays of light. This is the highest point of the route, about 5000 m. The cold is intense. Observe pools where the earth seems to boil with red, gray, and scarlet mud, which can be explored along their shores. The desert and Salar de Chalviri present another scene of great landscape value, combining white snow, ocher desert, blue water, and white borax. In one corner, enjoy a bath in Termas de Polques and a hearty breakfast outdoors.

Stop for lunch at Laguna Colorada, the main nesting center for three species of flamingos. The algae and plankton, activated by solar radiation and wind, give the lagoon its pink hue, as well as coloring the legs and plumage of these exotic birds.

As a final highlight, visit Laguna Verde at the foot of the Licancabur volcano. Arrive just in time to witness the water transition from emerald green to a duller shade.

Embark on a memorable journey encompassing nearly 7,500 square miles (12,000 km²) of striking salt flats and otherworldly desert scenery, including the colorful lagoons within the Eduardo Avaroa Reserve. The brilliant white expanse of Salar de Uyuni mimics a vast ice field. During the winter (the dry season from May to October), the surface solidifies, revealing geometric shapes created by the clustering of salt crystals into polygons. Come summer (the rainy season from November to March), the saline flatland transforms into an enormous reflective surface, seamlessly merging with the intensely azure sky above.
