Snorkeling Adventure - Get ready for a fun adventure with amazing guides on this excursion. Our small group was taken on a wonderful ride to visit a pearl farm. We thought this would just be a sales pitch, and hoped it would be quick. We were pleasantly surprised to get a great lesson in pearl harvesting with amazing demonstrations. There was jewelry for sale, but the emphasis was on teaching us about the passionate work being done with the oysters. After this we were taken to our snorkeling spot. We walked through the water to the shore and then along the shore to get to a starting spot. DO NOT DO THIS WITHOUT WATER SHOES! I won't lie - drift snorkeling is a challenge for me as the current was fairly strong, and I didn't feel like we had total control - leading to some minor collisions with other members in our group. After the drift snorkeling we had free time to snorkel on our own in the area. During the drift and free snorkeling, we saw many different amazing fish, clams, and coral. The return trip to the starting point was taken at a much faster speed which jostled all of our internal organs! That could have been a little slower for comfort, but all in all we had a great day. Again, the guides were so helpful and caring, never leaving anyone behind.
I can't stress enough the importance of having WATER SHOES for this excursion.

Fabulous!! Stunning reef. Bring a GO Pro !! - Absolutely incredible reef! Was the absolute highlight of our holiday! You will need some snorkelling experience in my opinion as the current can be strong. Would love to have done a few more times. Like swimming in an aquarium!

Coral Gardens snorkeling adventure - A 45 minute boat ride from Raitea to Motu Tuha with beautiful photo ops on the way. Our driver and guide, Roy, was a local who extremely knowledgeable and helpful. Upon arriving we walked to shore and took a short hike to the beginning of the coral gardens. From there we entered the water and snorkeled through a half mile of coral with a mild current pushing us through. Many colorful and exotic fish and plant life among the coral. Trip also included visit to Pearl Factory. Saw sting rays and manta rays on trip and at the pearl factory.

Drift Snorkeling Through the Coral - We weren’t quite sure what to expect from this drift snorkeling excursion, but we ended up having an amazing time! We took a 35-40 minute ride on a small boat to the snorkeling spot. They provide snorkels and masks to borrow, but no water shoes—so definitely bring your own. Luckily, my husband and I had our own gear because when I thought my mask was leaking, the one they had didn’t fit me, and that was the last available. Thankfully, I managed to fix the leak, so it all worked out.
When you get off the boat, you walk through some shallow water to a small island, then a few more steps into shallow water to start the drift snorkeling. Our boat driver and guide were super friendly and gave clear instructions along the way, which made everything easy.
After snorkeling, we visited a pearl farm nearby. It was fascinating to see how cultured pearls are grown—definitely worth checking out! Then, we took about a 40-minute ride back to the starting point. Just a heads-up: if you have a bad back, try to sit in the back of the boat because the ride can be pretty bumpy, especially on windy days like ours.
Overall, we had a total blast, such a great memory and are so glad we did it!

Beautiful drift through the coral! - The island and views were stunning, and the boat ride out to the coral reef was both scenic and enjoyable. We were excited to experience the famous drift through the coral gardens, but our guides didn’t explain how to reach the starting point—they simply dropped us off at the end. We noticed others walking up along the bank, so a few of us followed and ended up having an amazing experience! We were even able to do the drift twice within the allotted time.
Unfortunately, the rest of our group didn’t realize they could walk up to the top and felt the coral reef was just “so-so.” When we asked the tour operators why they hadn’t explained how to access the full drift, they said they don’t offer that option to cruise passengers because they assume we’re not physically capable. I felt the guides should have explained all the options and allowed guests to decide for themselves.
The visit to the pearl farm, however, was very interesting and enjoyable.

Too long for older folks - We had
a very pleasant boat ride. Then we stopped to snorkle. Pro: snorkled with stingrays, black tipped sharks and colorful fish. Con: there were too many people in that one area. Lunch was mediocre (we don't eat seviche) and those of us who are older (65+) would have been very happy to go back to the ship right after lunch. We didn't leave the lunch area til 2:30 pm, and we weren't interested in fire dance, coconut demo or service prep.

Our tour started at... - Our tour started at 9:00am approximately and we returned back to the dock approximately 12:00pm. Tour was suppose to be approximately 4 hours....it was not. When we finished snorkeling and got back on the boat, the boat guide was asking who had an extra pineapple snack cup because he didn't have enough for everyone. Finally afterwards he announced that we had 13 passengers and was only given snack for 12 passengers! So one person gave up his snack and shared with his wife, so the other person could have a snack. This should not have happened. The water was pretty rough and we felt the boat driver drove too fast under the condition.
The area where the drift snorkel was became busy. We did not feel comfortable because of that. After the drift, you could swim around and see quite a few fish. Overall, nice but we probably would do something different next time. We felt we were cheated out of an hour though.
