For seasoned kayakers looking for a distinctive nighttime experience, the Bar Room Bay Tour provides an exhilarating route filled with history and wildlife. The tour now departs from a historic site in Port O’Connor: the old boat ramp at the end of 16th Street, situated in front of the Texas Parks and Wildlife Coastal Fisheries office (and close to US Fish and Wildlife facilities). This ramp was once a lively launch point for local fishermen until Hurricane Carla’s destructive 1961 landfall, which brought a massive storm surge and winds that devastated much of the town, leaving it quiet for years.

From the ramp, participants will cross the Intracoastal Waterway (a deep channel of 12-15 feet) and proceed to one of Port O’Connor’s most picturesque and historic spots: Bar Room Bay.
