Civil War Tour: Explore South Mountain History

The tour is led by Dr. Brad Gottfried, an educator with 45 years of experience and the author of 22 books on the Civil War, such as “Maps of Antietam.” This tour will explore the events that took place, troop movements, and engaging human interest stories.

Participants will be provided with a packet of maps to enhance their understanding of the events.

  • Gathland State Park - The battles of South Mountain, including Turner’s Gap, Fox’s Gap, and Crampton’s Gap, played a significant role in the Maryland Campaign. Visitors will explore each battlefield to understand the events that took place and follow the paths of the soldiers who fought there.

- Our tour guide was very knowledgeable and presented all the facts. Some great hidden stories that you don't know. Bought human faces to some of the characters. I highly recommend this tour
