Inca Trail - The journey begins with a pick-up at 6:00 am from your accommodation in Cuzco, followed by a drive to the town of Rafca (2800m). The drive continues for another 30 minutes to the village of Socma (3000m), where the trek starts. Here, you will meet the muleteer who will accompany you on the hike. After a brief pause to pack, the trek towards the Inca site of Perolniyoc (3200m) begins. After approximately 2.5 hours, you will arrive at Perolniyoc for lunch and explore the stunning waterfall and archaeological ruins at the top of the valley. The trek continues for another 30 minutes to Rayan-Niyoc (3,600m), where you will settle in, have dinner, and camp overnight in a chilly climate.
Day 2: Rayanniyoc - Inti Punku - Choquetacarpo (B/L/D)
Inca Trail - Start the day early with a nutritious breakfast before embarking on a challenging trek to the first high pass of the journey, situated at 4,400 meters above sea level, offering breathtaking mountain views. Despite the altitude, local people still cultivate this area, and you will see them tending to their fields. After about 4 hours of walking, you will reach the pass, pausing to enjoy the panorama and catch your breath. Lunch will be at a camp around 4,300m, followed by a hike to the second high pass at 4,500m, the trek’s highest point. Relish the spectacular views of the valley below before descending for about 3 hours to Inti Punku (Sun Gate), which provides impressive views over the valley and the Veronica mountain on the horizon. Shortly after, you will arrive at Choquetacarpo (3600m), the second camp of the trek. Settle in, have dinner, and camp overnight.
Day 3: Choquetacarpo - Cachicata Inca Quarry - Ollantaytambo - Aguas Calientes (B/L/D)
Inca Trail - After breakfast at camp, continue descending to the Inca quarry of Cachicata (3820m), where you can observe the Incas’ craftsmanship. This quarry was used for constructing Ollantaytambo and features several large buildings, unfinished quarried stones, chullpas (burial houses), and a cave with Inca mummies. After exploring, continue descending for about 3 hours to the small town of Ollantaytambo, marking the end of this challenging and fascinating trek. From there, take the train to Aguas Calientes, where your guide will meet you at the train station to escort you to your hotel and provide instructions for the next day. Check into your hotel, have dinner, and enjoy a well-deserved rest.
