Stepping off the train at Keihan Uji station, I was immediately enveloped by the tranquil ambiance of Uji, a town that whispers tales of its illustrious past. Known as the heart of matcha, Uji is a place where history and tradition are woven into the very fabric of daily life. As someone who has always been fascinated by the cultural intricacies of Japan, I was eager to embark on the Uji Matcha Tour and delve into the rich tapestry of this enchanting town.

Our guides, Tomas and Dani, greeted us with warm smiles, setting the tone for what would be an unforgettable journey. We began our exploration at the Uji Shrine, a serene sanctuary nestled amidst lush landscapes. The shrine, believed to have been established during the Heian period, exudes a spiritual aura that invites reflection and mindfulness. As we wandered through its sacred grounds, Tomas shared stories of the shrine’s significance, painting vivid pictures of the past that seemed to come alive with each step.
