As a former professional athlete, I’ve chased adrenaline across the globe, from the peaks of the Himalayas to the depths of the Grand Canyon. But when I heard about the Futuristic Ayung River Adventure, I knew I had to experience it for myself. The promise of untouched waters and futuristic facilities was too tempting to resist.
Arriving in Ubud, the air was thick with anticipation. My fiancée and I were picked up by a courteous driver who whisked us away to the Mason Adventures facility. The drive was a prelude to the adventure that awaited us, filled with laughter and stories shared with another couple from Iran. The camaraderie was instant, setting the tone for the day.
Rapids and Revelry
The Ayung River is a beast of its own, with 33 rapids that promise a heart-pounding ride. Our guide, Wayan, was a maestro of the river, orchestrating our journey with a mix of skill and humor. His English was impeccable, and his singing even better. As we navigated the swirling vortexes and sudden drops, Wayan had us belting out rowing songs, our voices echoing off the canyon walls.
The thrill of the rapids was matched by the beauty of the untouched river splendors. We were encouraged to leap from the boat and float down the river, a moment of serene exhilaration amidst the chaos. Wayan was ever ready with a camera, capturing memories for our family album. The only downside was the queue for the official photos, but with Wayan’s shots, we had all we needed.
A Feast to Remember
After the adrenaline rush, the Mason Adventure & Chocolate Centre was a welcome retreat. Hot showers and changing rooms awaited, a luxury after the river’s embrace. The buffet was a feast for the senses, an ‘eat as much as you can’ affair that left us sated and smiling.
Reflecting on the day, the only regret was the missed opportunity with the official photos. Positioned at the back of the boat, we were out of the camera’s reach. Perhaps a small adjustment in the package could remedy this, but it was a minor blip in an otherwise flawless adventure.
