Exploring Dahar and the Grand Erg Oriental
Sahara Desert - Begin the day with a journey along the Roman road, passing through the olive groves of Zarzis. Make a brief stop at the salt lake before continuing to Tatouine, where there is free time to explore the traditional market. Proceed towards the Dahar mountain for a guided tour of the Berber village, featuring troglodyte houses carved into the cliffside. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, then continue to the Grand Erg Oriental desert and settle in at the campsite. Take a dip in the hot spring that nourishes the oasis, and optionally enjoy quad biking across the expansive dunes at sunset (available for an additional fee on-site). Conclude the day with dinner around the campfire and an overnight stay in tents.
Matmata and Return to Djerba
Matmata - Start the day with a camel ride at sunrise, followed by breakfast at the campsite. Depart for Matmata, a Berber village known for its troglodyte houses carved deep into the earth. Visit a local family to experience their daily life, including tasting flatbread with olive oil and honey, and enjoying mint tea. Explore the filming location of the initial scenes of the “Star Wars” movie, and have lunch in a troglodyte hotel. Travel through the Toujène mountains on the way back to Djerba.
