Lots of Worth-it Walking - Well organized tour with knowledgeable tour guide. Great sites. Bring water, sunscreen, and snacks as no opportunity for lunch. Not for those that have trouble walking.

Great Overview of Trujillo Area - We rode by the Temple of the Sun which is not open to visitors and had an extensive tour of the Temple of the Moon and Chan Chan. We also visited one of the Colonial homes in Trujillo as well as the beautiful cathedral. Our final stop was for a quick glimpse of the beach town. We did not get to see the museums, but our time was limited because of our cruise's schedule. Do bring water for your excursion and prepare for spending a good deal of time walking in the sun.

I would use this company again!! - Having a good explanation of the temples. Eating local food especially the “pacrones”
Pumpkin and sweet potato dounuts.
Tour group operators were excellent about contacting me before the cruise, day before and day of the tour, and getting us back to the ship in time!!

A great adventure - The guide Cythia was incredible. Her knowledge of the sites visited was amazing. Just be aware it is a lot of walking.

Great value tour - This tour was excellent for the price!
- The tour guide, Wilmer, knows his stuff and though his English was sometimes difficult to understand (and he speaks very fast), by Peruvian standards, he was pretty fluent
- We saw all the same things the ship’s excursion did, but for much less
- They were very careful to get us back to the ship an hour before all aboard. Another similar ship’s excursion got back an hour late!
The reasons I’m not giving it 5 stars:
- The description said that lunch was not included, but from 8:30 start until 3:30 end, we had no opportunity to even buy anything to eat. A warning to bring something would have been appropriate. We also should have been warned that there would be no water available. I would suggest adding a couple dollars to the price for each person and supplying bottles of water
- We could have used some more communication along the way about bathroom breaks. There was an opportunity during the first couple of hours, but then none until the end. I would have taken advantage of the first one, had I known
- Similarly, some in our group could have benefited from knowing at each site , approximately how much walking they might expect there
I do recommend this tour because I think it’s a great value, with warnings about these few things

Disappointed with this tour. Full tour bus. Customized? - We were disappointed with this tour by Mochilea Peru. Although the tour is called 'customized' we did not see any indication of this and the title is misleading. It cannot be customized as it is a large group tour. I booked through Viator and should have read the reviews.
We took the first shuttle off the cruise ship to a small square in town where there were many guides waiting/looking for customers. We then had to wait well over 30 minutes for the other passengers to arrive. There seemed to be two balanced groups of people on the lists so we thought there would be 2 separate tours. Eventually we were all put on a bus that had no working a/c and was not that clean. It is not the company's fault that we then sat waiting for the last passengers to arrive.
There were 2 guides on the bus but the groups were not divided equally. One guide took about 4 Spanish speaking customers and the other guide took about 23 people. Not a very equal division.
The Temple of the Sun is not open but the tour includes The Temple of the Moon. The guide did explain the sites well although please note that the speed of the tour, which included some uphill walking/steps, may not suit anyone with mobility issues.
We did not visit the museum and there was no explanation for this. Chan Chan was interesting but largely a reconstruction.
The tour then headed for a beach and we were given 10 minutes to walk around. We felt this part of the tour was rushed and the beach wasn't really worth visiting.
Conclusion: this was a large group tour. Benefit - the ship might wait for almost 30 passengers if they are late!

Good tour; dishonest company - The archeological sites were definitely worth visiting. I had the impression that the tour would be private since the title indicated it could be customized; however, it was with a large group of people, in a tour bus. Our guide was very attentive and worked hard to help everyone have a good time. His English was okay; I was able to get the gist of what he was saying, but there was no nuance or depth in the narration due to the limited English proficiency.
The main reason for the 2-star review is the company's lack of integrity. Several in our group got sick the night before the tour and couldn't participate. The manager, Julio, told me verbally and in writing that those who got sick would receive a partial refund. However, after making these promises, he simply stopped communicating with me and has never issued the partial refund. If he had explained that no refund was possible and pointed me to a policy, that would have been different. But to promise the refund and then ghost me is unacceptable.

Booked, paid, a total mess! - This trip was a total mess. We were not picked up at the port as booked. The meeting point, which we were told 2 days before, was at a hotel in the city about 1/2 hour away. We had to take the taxi ($20) there.
Once there, there was no guide and no one knew anything about a travel agency Mochilea. With the help of friendly passers-by we found after a half hour a travel agency "Colonial Tours" , where after a phone call with the manager of the company, Mr. Julio Gonzalez , and at the same time our responsible guide, who was to our astonishment but in Lima, at least got the statement that we could participate in a tour. This tour did not correspond in any way to the tour we booked!!!
We were transported to an unair-conditioned minibus to 8 other Spanish passengers. At least a German-speaking elderly gentleman was given to accompany us. We visited a mocho culture site, a ceramics factory and the museum at the Moon Pyramid. Then a tour of the moon pyramid (about 45 min) and then we went back to Trujillo. End!. In total, this tour lasted about 3 hours.
We had booked a private full-day tour in an air-conditioned limousine to the various places of worship of Trujillo and were very upset and disappointed at what we were offered. We received no refund whatsoever, let alone an apology from the agency.
