Fantastic experience to meet the reindeer and learn about Sami culture. - Tromsø: Reindeer Feeding and Sami Cultural Experience by Tromsø Lapland 4.5hour morning tour. Tour staff at the pick up location were really helpful getting us booked onto our tour and on the correct buses. The scenery on the route to the location was stunning. The location was not too far from Tromso, so we weren’t on the bus for hours. Upon arrival the temperature was -15 Celsius. Wrap up warm! We were told that they would provide further warm clothing if required. On arrival we were greeted by welcoming staff who explained what our tour would involve, that we would go and meet the reindeer, and how to feed them We were able to use a traditional Sami tent as our base, and leave our bags safely there. There were also biscuits and lots of hot beverage supplied that we could help ourselves to. The scenery at the reindeer camp was beautiful and we were blessed with good weather, clear skies. We were provided with buckets of reindeer food. They were adorable, and seemed happy and well cared for and excited for food. It was very cold and your hands get very cold. You could stay out with them as long as you wanted, and we were told what time to be back at the tent for lunch. Lunch provided was delicious traditional stew. If they offer second helpings, go for it! We then had a talk from our guide who is Sami, and she spoke about her culture and heritage after lunch. It was really interesting. Though this was a short trip for a few hours, it was worth it, and a lovely experience.

Educational and fun experience with Sami and reindeer - When I arrived at this tour's pickup spot and saw two huge coach busses full of other guests, I wasn't really sure what to expect from the outing, but it ended up standing out as a highlight of my trip to Scandinavia. Meeting the reindeer was a wonderful experience as they were so gentle, friendly, and curious. I was able to feed one from my hand, which was fun. Guests were given plenty of time to take photos and get to know the reindeer, then we headed inside for lunch and an informative presentation about Sami culture. I had the vegan soup/stew, which was both delicious and filling. Our Sami guide (I sadly do not recall his name) was funny and talked about some major points of his culture. I enjoyed the outing and felt it was a valuable part of my time in the Arctic.

Great experience feeding... - Great experience feeding the reindeer. They even offer feed refills if you are quick to go get one before they run out. Transport to and from well organised and the meal was very generously sized too

Pricey but worth it - We were very happy with this activity. Although quite short but there is not much more to do. A bit pricy considering is only 2,5 hours and around 40 minutes are used for transfers (in and out). The experience is great and the girl guide we had in the bus made the trip very short and enjoyable. Sami guides and tent were as expected, natural, original and authentic. It is expensive indeed but I will recommend it very much for those who wants to enjoy the animals close and live.

Should have been done once! - I can only recommend this experience to anyone. We really had a wonderful time. The animals are super cute and very sweet and just want to be fed. The nature was breathtaking and our guide who introduced us to the Sami culture was also great. A 10/10, the money is worth spending ☺️

One of the highlights of our trip - We toyed with husky sled ride or reindeers and went with reindeers, so glad we did. We were collected at 10am and taken on a scenic route to the reindeer where we got to feed them. Magical being so close to them and feeding them. Loved every minute. It was cold so good warm clothes and gloves a must even though at -4 it was mild for the reindeers! Our guide John Michael was entertaining, educational and interesting to listen to explain the Sami culture and their history. Lunch was good with an alternative if you don’t fancy the reindeer stew! Sled ride with them also very cool. Truly are magnificent creatures and so obviously well cared for. Left at 2pm to return to Tromso. Well worth it

A heart-warming and special experience to interact with individual reindeer, and learn about the Sámi culture. - We are animal lovers, so naturally we wanted to meet reindeer in their local environment. We have done a number of reindeer feeding activities throughout Scandinavia over the years. Each one has been very different - so if you have done reindeer feeding previously STILL consider this activity in Tromsø. Well worth the investment as the reindeer have their own personalities, and it was heart-warming and special to interact with individual reindeer. There were lots of reindeer, and you pick which ones you would like to meet and feed. There is the option of reindeer sledding when you book, however we opted just to feed the reindeer. We got to do 2 rounds of feeding the reindeer. We booked at the Tourist Shop, not the Tourist Information Centre for this tour. In addition to feeding the reindeer, we had an informative and entertaining presentation about the Sámi culture in Northern Norway. Our Sámi guide (had the longest name) was entertaining as well as demonstrated yerking (Sámi singing) and provided details about the Sámi Culture. We had the opportunity to try traditional bidos (reindeer meat and vegetables) or vegetarian soup. All produce, including the bread, is made locally and was extremely tasty and fresh. If you go in winter, we would recommend snow gloves for warmth, as when you feed the reindeer you can take your gloves off to hand feed. It’s worth hand feeding just for a reindeer kiss! For us travelling is also about the journey, not just the destination. The only recommendation we could make to Tromsø Lapland for this tour is to have some interaction with the Sámi guide from the start of the bus trip, not just at the location. It could be points of interest on the bus drive, learning some Norwegian or Sámi words, practicing how to pronounce the Sámi guide’s name or telling a Sámi story for example. Would recommend this activity for children and adults. Accessibility due to the snow and landscape would need to be considered.

Too long. Nice food. - Tricky one Run by the Sami people so that’s good. Efficient pick up- 2 big coaches. Lack of snow don’t help this experience thinking about it, the reindeer are fenced in an area with an electricity pylon in it. The whole was about an hour too long. People were waiting at the tables in the tent for ages before the food was served. Very tasty stew with nice bread. Cookies- shop packets, not great. Excellent talk about Sami culture when it eventually happened. If you can see reindeer in a small group and can afford that I’d personally suggest might be a better experience

Feeding the reindeer - The actual feeding of the reindeer was over very quickly. Very little background to the Sami culture was provided. The reindeer stew was bland and stodgy.

Unorganized - The tour got cancelled due to a power outage at the camp. We were informed one minute before the tour was supposed to start, there were no others booking possibilities offered. We feel like the main attraction here is the reindeers, not the food cooked at the camp. We would have appreciated to still be able to visit the reindeer, as we didn’t get to see any at all in our vacation this way. We understand a power outage is nothing the camp can control and we absolutely hope for them they were able to fix it within a timely manner. A earlier communication or optional Programm would have been highly appreciated tho.
