Day Trip to Lyngen Alps - Over the course of our one week family holiday in Tromso (Norway), we booked three private Northern Lights tours and one private day trip with Nico who owns and operates Arctic Photo Guide. I’ve already posted a review on our three private Northern Lights trips, so this review focuses on our trip to the Lyngen Alps. Just like our three Northern Lights tours and due to many micro climates in the area, Nico helped us select where to go based on the weather forecast as we were considering Senja or the Lyngen Alps. Since the weather forecast was better for the Lyngen alps and had more ferry crossings, we went with that plan. And it was a perfect sunny day with very little wind and the views delivered ! We enjoyed (1) mountain / fjord views from the round trip ferry, (2) views from a river fed by a beautiful frozen lake with mountain reflections in the water, (3) walking on the frozen lake while eating chips of ice, (4) a short trek along a river with views of glaciers between the mountains, (5) walking on chunks of ice at the end of the fjord, and a (6) nice lunch spot directly opposite from the Sweden border. As you can see from the pictures, we had a great time ! For all these reasons, just like our three Northern Lights Tours. we strongly recommend Arctic Photo Guide for day trips.

The top of the top - I went on a panoramic photo tour of the Norwegian fjords with Nicola and I can say it was a very special experience. Nicola is an Italian boy who has lived in Norway for about ten years and you can clearly see how well he knows the territory and how passionate he is about photography and nature. During the tour he took us to spectacular viewpoints, far from the most touristic areas, perfect for taking incredible photographs of the Arctic fjords and landscapes. In addition to guiding us through these wonderful places, he also gave us useful tips on how to improve shots, explaining composition, light and camera settings. The atmosphere was very relaxed and pleasant, almost like taking a photo shoot with a friend who knows every corner of the area. Nicola is very helpful, prepared and knows how to tell curiosities about life in Norway and the territory. I absolutely recommend this tour to those who love photography, nature and want to discover the fjords from an authentic and panoramic perspective. It was an experience that I will definitely take with me.

The top of the top - We took part in this fantastic photo tour of the fjords and it was a simply magnificent experience. The guide, Nico, an Italian photographer living in Norway, was exceptional: not only does he know the territory perfectly, but he also has a great passion for photography and knows how to convey it in a natural and engaging way. We visited incredible landscapes between fjords, mountains and arctic light, with carefully chosen stops. Each location looked like something out of a postcard. During the tour we learned a lot. What we enjoyed most was the atmosphere: relaxed, friendly and authentic. It was not just a photo tour, but a real Norwegian nature experience. If you love landscape photography and want to discover the fjords from spectacular perspectives, I absolutely recommend this tour. An experience that I would do again without thinking twice!

A perfect day. Thank you for sharing your island and knowledge with us. - A truly wonderful day. Thank you so much for sharing your island and knowledge with us. I will treasure your photos, as well as my own, beautiful memories. ❤️ You made sure we had time to photograph all we wanted, you explained about the nature, the seasons, the landscape and helped us get the best photos. I would recommend you 100%. When we were running late you still made time for us to see the astonishing sight of the whale. Even on the journey back you stopped when we spotted the reindeer. A perfect day.

Perfect afternoon exploring the area: brilliant guide in a beautiful place - Having spent the previous evening successfully chasing the Northern Lights, we had already booked a second trip with Nico to explore the area. Nico checked the weather the night before and agreed a convenient time for us to depart based on the weather conditions that were expected the following day. We ventured around the fjords of the central part of Kvaløya island, and the weather was perfect. We made lots of stops and grabbed some awesome images of this spectacular area of Norway. Great day out with a great guide. 100% recommend.

An Unforgettable Photography Adventure on Senja with Nico! - If you are looking for the ultimate photo excursion in Northern Norway, look no further. I recently went on a trip to the magical island of Senja with Nico, and it was, in one word: phenomenal! This is not just a tour; it’s a photography masterclass from a true expert. Nico knows the region like the back of his hand and uses his custom 4x4—which handles deep snow with ease—to take you to hidden gems far away from the typical tourist crowds. Whether it’s the iconic Mount Segla or the dramatic "Devil’s Teeth" at Tungeneset, Nico knows exactly when to push forward to catch that perfect light between the snowstorms. What sets Nico apart is his personal touch and expertise. He teaches you about composition, aspect ratios, and the technicalities of shutter speeds and aperture. I returned home with 145 stunning photos and new skills. Even when the Arctic weather is challenging, Nico ensures an unforgettable experience. Instead of shivering in the cold, he guided us to a remote wooden "hytte" and conjured a magical lunch from his backpack: warm reindeer soup (bidos), hot chocolate, and cookies. The atmosphere is fantastic; Nico greets his clients like old friends and goes above and beyond to ensure a top-tier day. Senja is often called "Norway in a nutshell," but with Nico as your guide, it becomes a grand adventure. Whether you book a day excursion or an Aurora hunt: Nico is the absolute Arctic Photo Guide you need. Highly recommended for every photography enthusiast!

Discovering the most authentic fjords - There are two types of guides: those who do it only for work and those who do it with passion. Nicola definitely belongs to the second category. From the moment of booking, we understood that we had to rely on him to live an unforgettable experience and so it was. Unlike the classic tourist tours, Nicola takes you on a discovery tour of the lesser-known sights and more isolated places to fully experience the Norwegian fjords!! Equipped with anything you may need during the tour, he has always been attentive to our well-being especially given the low temperatures. For lunch (included in the price) he served us an excellent reindeer soup by the sea. This journey will remain in our hearts also thanks to him!! If I haven’t convinced you yet, go see his car 🤪

Fantastic tour. Small group, breathtaking photos - I joined the tour on January 20th (2026). It was fantastic, with a small group. Nico knows the most beautiful (and hidden) spots in the region. The fact that he loves nature and photography made everything even better as he was in no rush, was very kind, and gave us many tips — almost like mini-lessons — on how to take the best photos. In addition, he took some truly breathtaking photos himself, which he later shared with us. There was lunch (soup) and he also offered thermal stickers (body warmers) for those who needed.
